LOL, during that time frame, he may have been impressed!
(don’t know if they did that to officers, but many who were impressed by the Royal Navy just did what they could as best they could, just to get by)
Born in America before the Revolution. His parents were Loyalists and left the US during the Revolution when he was still a child.
That is why I would not refer to him as an American sea Captain.
