Sometimes a speech is just a speech. And sometimes it heralds the prospect of a great national revival.
Donald Trump gave the best speech of his short political life last night, and it had nothing to do with grand oratory. He was thoroughly presidential, speaking plainly and yet masterfully in projecting an optimistic vision of the America he aims to build.
It is a vision so optimistic and encompassing that even steaming Democrats had to join boisterous Republicans in the applause at times.
Anything you could possibly want, he served it up in a feast of ideas and promises. Trump was at times resolute, as when he talked about the broken promises of ObamaCare.
And he never once mentioned the media or fake news. Hallelujah!
His speech was well written, and well delivered, chock full of initiatives and full of changes in mood.
Trump was aggressive when he wondered how Democrats opposed to border control would feel if they talked to an American who lost his job and maybe a loved one because of an illegal immigrant.
He showed flashes of humor and talked with compassion about the power of school choice to save children from failing schools while recounting the story of a young woman in the audience. She was one of several nonwhites he singled out in a display of diversity that most Dems couldnt resist.

...Trump pooped all over the RATs last night. He set them up, and knocked them down....
And the best part was how stunned they were from beginning to end, and after.
What about all the accolades form the right concerning what was basically the same speech he’s given over and over? Have not been listening?
They didn’t know what to do, because they’re not used to having the truth be told about them.
Trump’s biggest strength is that he’s not pulling any punches. The Republicans have become a party of invertebrates, because they believe they’re taking the “high road” by not criticizing anti-American Democrats. The media knows this and uses it to their advantage 100% of the time.
Trump has them all on defense now, because he’s calling them out on things that are as plain as the nose on your face. They’re shellshocked, punch drunk, and struck dumb by the attacks, because over the last 40 years, the Republicans haven’t fought back. Democrats forgot how to debate and rebut. It’s becoming obvious that they’re truly losers who relied on the media lapdogs to hoist them up.
I don't think Trump is out of the woods by any stretch. The establishment is going to continue to try and bring him down. But their task has been made more challenging as a result of last night's speech.
What a contrast from Obama’s narcissistic, condescending, hateful, marxist, muslim-loving, cowardly tone.
The left showed how petty, childish, obnoxious and truly hateful that they are.
There were a few parts of his policy that I do not agree with, but his tone was one of making America great again and empowering all Americans.
Well done, Mr. President.
Obama was blaming Bush for everything.
.
Was there a Control-LEFT media crew covering Zero’s response to the speech?
/okay sarcasm
“...I don’t think Trump is out of the woods by any stretch. The establishment is going to continue to try and bring him down. But their task has been made more challenging as a result of last night’s speech....”
Yes, but all he needs to do is DELIVER! He has set it up by neutralizing many of the RAT’s talking points. The American public will not learn that the ONLY thing that counts is what a President DOES...not what he says. This, in stark contrast to Obama who lied about everything and did things that were AGAINST the American public, not for it. So far, so good, to say the least.
“Where have these people been? Mr. Trump has been giving that same basic speech for two years.”
That is exactly what I was thinking while watching the speech.
