Massive solar flares have the potential to shut down power grids on Earth and wreak havoc on navigation systems
NASA is gearing up to send a robot to the Sun to help prepare for a huge solar event that could wreak havoc on Earth

I think that you can only land on the darkside. The dark side of Mercury gets down to -280°F (no atmosphere and long nights, so the radiative cooling gets extreme).

Why dont they land it at night? It gets so cold at night on the sun that the instruments would freeze up.

... so the radiative cooling gets extreme I'm in tropical Central American at the moment. Earlier this week we had a very clear night so I took my IR thermometer outside and pointed it up at the sky.
Minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit!

From a dramatic standpoint a good film. The science in it is absurd! It presents the sun as some giant BIC lighter in need of flint & fuel!
