Massive solar flares have the potential to shut down power grids on Earth and wreak havoc on navigation systems
NASA is gearing up to send a robot to the Sun to help prepare for a huge solar event that could wreak havoc on Earth
The Solar Plus Probe will come within four million miles of the suns surface, facing heat and radiation like no spacecraft has endured before.

I think so—the one where they’re headed toward the sun in a spaceship, to save the world or something?
First thing I thought of, too.

This strikes me as left-over Obamafoolery.
Trump will turn Nasa around.

"to the surface of the SUN"
Yeah, right.

Throw a couple of hydrogen bombs into it, that ought to quiet it down a bit! ;)

Well, they have a better shot at stopping global warming this way, since the sun causes any climate change.

Well - within four million miles is still a lot closer than we are. But I do wonder - they are going all that way, they might as well land, grab some samples and bring them back.
(I know WE could use some samples - it’s been rainy and cloudy here for numerous days.)

Looking at a photo, it might not be a bad idea because the Solar Probe has an ISIS Suite. :-)
