Former President George W. Bush believes President Trump is off track by fighting the media and speaking out against Islam in speeches and in his executive immigration order.
Bush didn't directly criticize Trump in an NBC interview on Monday, but he used his own time in office to contrast with what how the current president is using the presidency. When asked about Trump's spats with the media, Bush said he never considered the press the "enemy of the American people," as Trump said last week.
"I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy," Bush said. "We need an independent media to hold people like me to account. Power can be vindictive and corrosive, and we need the media to call out people who abuse their power."

George W. Bush - an idiot in making. I am ashamed of having voted for him twice....
I used to think that W as an incredibly naïve but nice guy. Now - he’s crossing over the line toward evil.
Yes. Of course he says this. The press not only ate his lunch. They fried him so hard at the stake, they didn’t even have the decency to kill him. Just taint him to poison and drown his personal brand into a joke. But gee George. Not an enemy? I wonder what he truly defines as an enemy of him and to ‘Republican’ and or ‘conservative’ principles. No wonder our country continued unmitigated to become in the power of the commie/socialists on his watch.
I consider honest and accurate media to be indispensable to democracy. But you have to acknowledge that the current mainstream media have gone beyond being leftist to a chaotic world of propaganda and fake news. Bush cannot see this?
Why cannot Bush and others simply recognize that media is not one size fits all, but is a composed of a range of quality from tabloid to propaganda to hit pieces to actual even-handed journalism.
The reader likes to be treated with integrity and intelligence who welcomes facts and information. He or she can make his or her own decisions on the basis of quality journalism.
Exactly correct. Let me repeat that.....
“Oh sure, W keeps his mouth shut for eight miserable years of Obama destroying the country, but now he speaks up to criticize Trump and defend the jackals who continue to chew him up to this very day.”
To be fair, the alternatives would have been worse.
I cant think of many people I would have hated listening to drone on for 4 or 8 years more than Obama, but Al Gore and John Kerry would have been right up there.
I remember how they treated Bush during his presidency. It was downright embarrassing and we defended him more than he defended himself. He just stood there and let everyone humiliate and embarrass him.
It embarrassed me seeing our President treated this way and doing nothing about it.
Now he chooses to join the bullies. I have no respect for him whatsoever.
Sick about my son joining the USMC during his term, trusting him.
My son served with honor and pride, which is more than I can say about Bush.
Disgusted with him, .....and with myself for being so ignorant in trusting him.
Bush - Clinton - Bush - Obama. The very definition of “decline.”
The Lord gave us one more chance. Don’t blow it, America.
Right now, George P. seems to be the only one in the family with half a lick of sense.
But GWB has at times gushed over much he cares about the troops. But his overall strategies were not in the best interests of the troops.
Remember how he too could hardly says “radical Islamic terrorism”; all three words made him shudder.
Sometimes it’s easy to get swept away in the euphoria of partisanship, but the GOP has always dampened that spirit with its refusal to fight the enemies.
I would laugh if Cheney tweeted “yeah right George, could you step into my office for a minute?”
Of course Cheney probably doesn’t tweet.
Exactly!! Getting revenge for Jebbie’s loss??
No. He is the one who still wants votes.
Don’t get me started about that Paulson deal.
Barry Goldwater later on also dissed those that backed him in 1964.
Very disheartening.
