18 running to fill Price’s U.S. House seat, but Trump could drive vote
Atlanta Journal Constitution ^ | 2/15/2016 | Greg Bluestein

The race to replace former U.S. Rep. Tom Price is more than an early test of President Donald Trump’s popularity. It’s also a bitter battle between powerful Republican factions and a proving ground for Democrats who hope Trump helps them win conservative areas.

Eighteen candidates qualified to run this week for the April 18 special election to succeed Price. And the fight over the suburban Atlanta district, which spans from east Cobb County to north DeKalb County, could fast become a template for the 2018 election.

"... all eighteen candidates will be on the same ballot
on April 18, regardless of their party affiliation
followed by a June 20 runoff election between the top two vote-getters ..."

I'm already getting spam solicitation emails from some of these folks,
but I do not live in the 6th district.

11 Republicans running?? Check to see if any are on Soros’ payroll. They will certainly dilute the Republican votes and it may well end up with 2 D’s running in the runoff. POOR PLANNING!

Trump should pick one, back them early so the base doesn’t split and we end up with another rino.

I know. Just imagine if you get the sales manager versus the small business owner. Sounds good but they’re both D.

It’s also a bitter battle between powerful Republican factions and a proving ground for Democrats who hope Trump helps them win conservative areas.

Here's how the press will play it: If a democrat wins the 'win' will be called a Bellwether Event. If a Republican wins - it'll be played as meaningless.

I’ve done this much research so far. Spintreebob, ping the crew, and especially as I develop more information as regards the other candidates.

I did Abroms, Gray, Handel, Hernandez.
So far, Bob Gray looks the most promising.
Abroms is disqualified outright.
Handel looks less enthused than Gray about President Trump, but she is a second runner up so far.
Hernandez is a longhaired kid. Too young.

Still have to do Grawert, Hill, Kremer, Levell, Llop, Moody, and Wilson. Cut all the dems out automatically.

David Abroms (R): Business executive; former congressional aide.
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2017/02/21/a-gop-newcomer-lays-a-250k-bet-on-georgias-6th-district/
In a solidly-Republican district that only supported Trump by a whisker in November, Abroms said he’d be willing to defy Trump.

Bob Gray (R): Former Johns Creek councilman; “willing partner” with President Donald Trump.
http://patch.com/georgia/johnscreek/johns-creek-council-member-run-congress
We have a narrow window of opportunity to affect real change in America,” Gray said. “President Trump is going to need willing partners in Congress to make that happen.

Karen Handel (R): ex-GA secretary of state has name recognition after running in 2010 for governor and 2014 for US Senate.
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2017/02/15/karen-handel-vows-to-fight-the-status-quo-in-6th-district-bid/
“It’s time to deliver on the promises made of cutting spending, repealing Obamacare and reducing regulations,” she said,

Alexander Hernandez (I): Political newcomer, property craftsman is one of two independent candidates in the race.

I know Bruce LeVell pretty well and like him. He is very, very well connected with Trump and his people. This may not be an advantage in the election, but would be were he to be elected.

I think Wiz-Nerd knows Moody well, and likes him a lot. We’re going to talk about that later in the week.

I’ve done all my homework. Obviously, no Democrats, but of the non-objectionable Republicans and Independents, I have

David Abroms (R): Business executive; former congressional aide.
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2017/02/21/a-gop-newcomer-lays-a-250k-bet-on-georgias-6th-district/

“It’s time to deliver on the promises made of cutting spending, repealing Obamacare and reducing regulations,” she said,
http://www.myajc.com/news/state—regional-govt—politics/running-fill-price-house-seat-but-trump-could-drive-vote/l1MNkscmQQ2vNYKlka9OwL/
Former state Sen. Dan Moody and ex-Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel hardly mentioned Trump’s name in announcing their bids,

Alexander Hernandez (I): Political newcomer, property craftsman is one of two independent candidates in the race.
https://cdn20.patchcdn.com/users/2213323/20170118/031415/styles/T600x450/public/article_images/screenshot_2017-01-18_at_13959_pm-1484770445-4442.jpg
Looks way too young

Judson Hill (R): Former St Sen represented E Cobb; 1st Republican in the race.
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2016/11/30/judson-hill-becomes-first-republican-to-enter-race-to-replace-tom-price/
He pledges to be a “conservative reformer.” “The people of our great country voted in November to chart a new course to restore America’s leadership role in the world,” said Hill. “America’s best days are ahead of us if elected leaders will simply return to our founding principles and seize the opportunity to fundamentally reform Washington, D.C.”
Judson Hill, who resigned his state Senate seat when he qualified Monday, was careful to walk a line when asked what role the president would play.

Amy Kremer (R): Republican activist who qualified just before the Wed deadline.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/10/30/1588647/—The-men-in-my-kitchen-talked-like-Trump-Amy-Kremer-Women-Vote-Trump-PAC
In the trenches for Trump BEFORE IT WAS COOL.

Bruce LeVell (R): Sandy Springs executive was head of Trump’s diversity coalition.
http://www.myajc.com/news/state—regional-govt—politics/running-fill-price-house-seat-but-trump-could-drive-vote/l1MNkscmQQ2vNYKlka9OwL/
And Bruce LeVell, who headed Trump’s diversity coalition, described himself as the only candidate in the race who was with Trump through “thick and thin” to fight for his policies. “And once in Congress, I will be President Trump’s strongest ally to make that vision come true,” he said.

William Llop (R): Sandy Springs accountant will run as a “financial expert.”
Nothing much to find.

Dan Moody (R): Once a St Sen, Moody is a US Army vet; now a Johns Creek executive.
http://www.myajc.com/news/state—regional-govt—politics/running-fill-price-house-seat-but-trump-could-drive-vote/l1MNkscmQQ2vNYKlka9OwL/
Former state Sen. Dan Moody and ex-Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel hardly mentioned Trump’s name in announcing their bids,

Keith Grawert (R): US Air Force pilot; Dunwoody resident wants to “return public service to Washington.”

Kurt Wilson (R): Roswell small business owner; staunch supporter of term limits.
http://www.streetinsider.com/Press+Releases/Georgia+CD-06+Candidate+Kurt+Wilson+Adds+U.S.+Term+Limit+Pledge/12557696.html
Likes Term limits but not a lot of vocal support of President Trump. Probably off the list.
**********************************************************
I like LeVelle and Gray so far Kremer, too, she was in the trenches for Trump before it was cool. But Moody barely mentions Trump and will probably say whatever he senses you want.
