Egypt's foreign minister to head to Washington Sunday ahead of Sisi visit

The visit is aimed to set the ground for next month's visit by President El-Sisi

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to Washington DC on Sunday in preparation for a visit by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in March, the ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Shoukry will meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to discuss bilateral ties and the Trump administration's vision for the Arab region, spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in remarks to a local TV programme.

The spokesman said the visit will also tackle the agenda of El-Sisi's anticipated visit to Washington in March, the first by an Egyptian president in decades.

The last such visit was by Hosni Mubarak in 2004.

Trump and El-Sisi have already shown a certain rapport. Both leaders exchanged phone calls in recent months, with El-Sisi being the first foreign leader to congratulate Trump on his election victory.

Trump said there was "good chemistry" when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September.

This is the second visit by Shoukry to Washington since Trump was elected president in November. His first trip was in December when he held a series of meetings with members of Congress and senators.

Egypt has a lot of dirt on Hillary and Obama after they tried to install Morsi. This meeting may well be quite interesting.

I hope they spill the beans on Hillary. One would be interfering in their election.

“Egypt has a lot of dirt on Hillary and Obama after they tried to install Morsi.”

I hope our counter-terrorism teams are ramping up for the visit of El-Sisi.

Not only is her against ISIS, he’s a supporter of Israel; because he knows his history .. which is the fact that Abraham took an Egyptian slave girl (because in that day, if the wife could not bear children, the head of the house was allowed to have children with another member of the household (any slave) he chose.

We know from that history, that Ishmael was born. And, while he had no right to inherit anything from Abraham, he lobbied for years and years against Isaac, the first child born from Abraham’s wife, Sarah.

So, we have an ISIS fighter, and a supporter of Israel.

I do hope we’re paying attention.

I have a number of good Egytian friends. Most of them I met during the Morsi disaster. Isupported Sisi from first day he stepped in and ended the Islamist Chaos.

signifying nothing, Tuesday, I was served by the manager of a fast food establishment during the lunch rush. He was named Mubarak and clearly Egyptian and a good guy. He was a huge man and could form the defensive backfield all by himself.

What I mean is, he was a big, big man.

my goodness no.

Egypt is the key player around which the other moderate Arabs will gather to go forward after the Obama debacle. Although Saudi Arbia is the silent Managing Director, Egypt will be the visible director providing access to the coalition

Totally agree. Sorry for wrong assumption.

Egyptians LOVE Sisi. But it was Millions of Egyptians rebelling against Morsi & MB that triggered overthrow. Sisi reacted bravely defying orders to fire on Egyptians. He ended the Chaos and murder of Christians.

He will always be remembered for that. And we even convinced Obama (finally) that nothing would reverse that. (smile)

“He ended the Chaos and murder of Christians.”

I believe Sisi needs Trump’s commitment to replace military hardware, aircraft, ammo and provide Sat. Intel. Many of our good generals talk to their Egyptian counterparts all the time. It’s time to act.

Sisi would finish ISIS western flank in Libya and the Sinai in a matter of weeks. He is itching to avenge the 21 Egyptian Copts who were slaughtered by ISIS on a a Serte beach.

No more safe havens to run to from Syria and Iraq.
