Thought this part was interesting:

In contrast to Trump’s stated enthusiasm for torture, McMaster ordered detainees be treated humanely, and even polled detainees on how well the regiment followed through. And in contrast to the dark view of Islam put forward by Trump, his strategy chief Steve Bannon and, most notably, Flynn – who once tweeted that fear of Muslims is “rational” – McMaster ordered his troops not to use derogatory terms to refer to Muslims.

While some things I read about him in this article sound good, I see some things I don't like:

However, much like Trump’s pick to head the Pentagon, James Mattis, McMaster is a known entity to traditional US allies, and a figure reassuring to the US security establishment Trump has often scorned.

That doesn't please me because I firmly believe it was folks in this establishment that forced Flynn out. Based on articles from the NYT, WaPo, and Wall Street Journal, none could prove that he directly said he would repeal the sanctions. Flynn had a target on his back - he was one of four scalps that they wanted with the other three being Bannon, Miller, and Conway. They had been trying to get Flynn for months. Recall in December all those liberal groups signed a petition to get Flynn removed from his post. Trump should never have given them that scalp. I did a post on this here:

http://dtforpres.blogspot.com/2017/02/high-fives-at-wapo-as-they-claim-scalp.html

A perusal of Twitter showed the MSM fawning over this pick. CNN right now praising this pick. One person said he will be "an adult in the room," and that person obviously does not like Trump.

John McCain fawned over the pick, and I take John McCain's advice to do the opposite.

Mike Cernovich, prominent Trump supporter and Flynn advocate, Tweeted, "The Deep State got its man." This was retweeted by none other than General Flynn's son.

BS

Per Pence, Trump is an incredible strategist.

He knows what he is doing.

Trump should Tweet: “I really thought I had a winner in General McMaster until Hanoi John voiced his support - now I’m not so sure”

(Is that 141 characters or less)?

At the end of the day, he is an adviser. Bannon is one, Conway is one, etc. Trump has proven over and over that he knows how to process multiple takes on a situation and arrive at the right decision. His instincts are very sound.

Speaking of Flynn - there are things about this whole affair I don’t understand.

Flynn would have known that communications with the Russian ambassador were bugged. Wasn’t there some way he could communicate in a safe space? And since he didn’t, he would have known that the IC would have a record of what was said. So why did he lie to Pence, and put him in that false position, since he (Flynn) knew that he was a target and what he had said to Pence would be shown to be false?

It doesn’t make any sense.

McCain has been a very aggressive and loose cannon for several years, looking like he wants to provoke needless wars with people we shouldn’t be fighting

I do NOT have confidence in this selection (whose military record looks outstanding) ... because McCain’s endorsement is a super serious Warning Signal...imho

McCain impresses me as extremely dangerous and unstable on foreign and military policy ...

Not to worry. Some guys clearly in the anti-neocon camp who know McMaster give the pick thumbs up. Col. W. Patrick Lang, the antithesis of McCain said:

"I have long considered LTG McMaster to be the best officer of his generation in every way that matters. Therefore I am immensely pleased that President Trump has chosen him for this job. pl"

Well .. I wouldn’t get too concerned about anything McCain says. He’s been beat up rather soundly the last couple of days, and I suspect his vote of confidence might be the result.

In fact, I’m hoping it is .. and that McCain has learned a great lesson. The Trump VOTERS are not going to allow him to besmirch the President, without having to pay a price in the media.

McCain pretends not to understand the “Press” ISN’T FREE - IT’S BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY GEORGE SOROS, THE DEMOCRAT PARTY - AND A FEW REPUBS. But, if McCain continues to launch on Trump, he’s going to find that the Press he lauds .. will be only too eager to print all the unkind things said about McCain.

While some things I read about him in this article sound good, I see some things I don't like:

It's not professional to use derogatory terms. The man sounds like a professional (with a superior record) who expects those around him to be professional too.

McMaster ordered his troops not to use derogatory terms to refer to Muslims.

So I'm imagining him warning everyone in WWII not to call anyone 'Jap' or 'Kraut.' . . . Disqualifies him right there as far as I'm concerned. War is no place for political correctness.
