John McCain suggests on Meet the Press that President Trump is suppressing the free press, which is the first thing that dictators do.
If you want to preserve Im very serious now if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press, McCain said in the interview. And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. Thats how dictators get started.
The American press is many times adversarial, i.e., it is adversarial when we have a Republican in the White House.
They get started by suppressing free press, in other words, a consolidation of power when you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press, McCain said. And Im not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. Im just saying we need to learn the lessons of history.
John, John, get a grip! Who is suppressing the press? Do you seriously not understand the difference between criticizing the press and suppressing it? The press is not above criticism. On the contrary, it deserves to be called out constantly for bias and inaccuracy. President Trump has taken a good step in that direction, but a great deal more press criticism is in order.
Also: not calling on CNN in a White House press conference does not constitute suppressing CNN.
The Washington crack-up continues apace.

An enemy ace?
I know what I call someone who doesn’t bother to research the links provided to him. Blaming McCain for the Forrestal fire is just plain stupid. Too dumb to even find a proper adjective.
McCain should shut his yap and give that nasty gash under his nose a chance to heal.
he was already in the gutter........<<
Not when he was in North Viet Nam!!!....He was King of the captives as “Songbird”...(remember who his father was....lol..That doesnt get mentioned much now a days)...He has parlayed that thinking all the way to the Senate......He is the Beau Bergdahl of the Military!!
McCain’s old man was the head of the Bureau of Personnel for the Navy when junior was attending the Academy. He graduated nearly dead last, the Anchor. When does a midshipman who is nearly dead last in his class get to go to flight school? Never....at least in normal times. He shoulda ended up as a ground pounder.....or cannon cocker like me.
It was McCain’s Campaign Finance Reform legislation that it my opinion un-Constitutionally gagged average people from speaking out 6 weeks prior to an election in the USA.
The proper adjective could probably be used to describe someone who is a McCain defender in a deep state of denial.
The story of McCain “wet starting” his jet and shooting flames and jet fuel across a deck filled with planes loaded with vulnerable old munitions are said to have begun circulating immediately after the tragedy. Smart guy, maybe you can tell me how many other uninjured Forestall crew members were immediately whisked away by helicopter
Official whitewash aside... the people in charge most likely assumed because of his previous behavior and the eye witness accounts of the wet start that McCain was responsible. The truth about McCain is that he was a spoiled rotten hotshot and assumed he could get away with anything because of his family connections. He should not have been allowed to fly a military aircraft again after he destroyed the first one. Many lives most likely would have been saved.
As far as the links I provided... those were merely the first two... if you want to take the time there are far more damning links further down in the search results. They are largely far less charitable than the two that I provided. So your little hissy fit aside... McCain is the most worthless RINO waste of flesh currently in existence. He should be charged with sedition and thrown in Gitmo before he manages to do any further damage.
Sorry, good list of links, should have looked at them before continuing my rant.
It’s been debunked a hundred time. It makes FR look stupid and gullible.
Why don't you take the time to read the thread I linked to. Read the comments of FReepers who were there. Read the Navy investigation or watch one of the documentaries on it. Read my posts.
If you still want to argue it then do it on that thread and take it point by point.
I repeat my apology from post #89.
Just as it's not logical to bring up McCain's four plane crashes as proof that he caused the fire on the Forrestal. Both would be non-sequitur arguments.
If you're still in doubt about the Forrestal fire I genuinely encourage you to research it and that thread provides pretty much all the information, posted or in links, that can be found. I wasn't trying to tell you to believe me I was trying to get you to look into it.
With literally dozens of malevolent things McCain can be criticized for having done I don't think it's necessary to use the one story that has no substance to it. I've vetted to the best of my ability every story in the big list of links and that's only a partial list of his calumnies. I have lists compiled by two other FReepers that are nearly as big with very little overlap.
AZ voters should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. But, like democrats, they’ll never acknowledge that they were wrong, nor would they ever apologize for foisting this disgraceful wreak of a...man on the rest of us.
And the press LOVES him he leaks many stories POS indeed.
Bitch in a ditch
+1
Dear battery,
re: “McStain nearly sank the Forrestal with his Hot Start.”
It is really AMAZING, that for, ahem, no apparent reason, the video history of that event has found itself in the ‘latest’ round of ‘recommended viewings’ on YouTube, and can be downloaded!
He has yet to be brought to justice for the deaths of Navy personnel, by his stupidity.
Thanks.
No hot start involved. The cause was something long the lines of a static discharge.
The Forrestal fire began when a rocket misfired due to an electronic malfunction. It flew across the deck hitting a fuel tank on the plane parked next to McCain’s and the conflagration erupted.
It’s one of the rare instances were disaster occurred and McCain wasn’t at fault. No need to try to blame the old fool for this one when there’s plenty of valid reasons to want him out of office.
