It was a disaster from the beginning, and the Bush administration knew it. Go back and see what Dick Cheney was saying after Operation Desert Storm when he was asked why the U.S. didn't invade Iraq and topple Saddam Hussein's regime back then. The chain of events he predicted in the early 1990s was exactly what happened in the 2000s.
that's just bullsh*t right there. Iraq was won and done. the last step in any victorious war is basing rights. See Japan, Germany, and Korea. The obamites were either unwilling or unable (read: incompetent) to accomplish that simple task. And that's when we had 130,000 armed troops across the street. basing rights could have been force fed to the Iraqi puppet of a president if necessary.

basing rights are easy, they're safe, and they would have preserved the peace and our accomplishment. They would have also obliterated Isis before they could crawl completely out of their hole, and it would have kept Iran in their box.

there weren't three people in all of FR that were against intervention in Iraq when it happened. PERIOD. why people have allowed themselves to be cowed by MSM lies, and why they're willing to sound like they've spent the last 6 years writing obama's talking points for him is beyond me.

people need to find their spines.

By the time Bush left office the military campaign in Iraq had already lasted longer than the U.S. involvement in both World Wars combined. Why are you blaming Obama for botching it?

There were plenty of us here on FR who were opposed to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It’s easy to forget that because most of them are gone.

The invasion of Iraq was officially exposed as a fraud when the U.S. allowed the new Iraqi government to adopt a constitution in which ISLAM IS ENSHRINED AS THE OFFICIAL STATE RELIGION. It wasn’t Barack Hussein Obama who did that, was it?

As one of those three, I suppose I should take that as a compliment, being ahead of the pack. However, there were hundreds of other FReepers who also considered Iraq no direct threat to these United States. We were outnumbered--or at least outshouted, especially in the election year of 2008--by trolls who were as intolerant of other opinions as . . well, the so-called anarchists who shout down conservative speakers on college campuses have nothing on some of the former members of this forum. There was no point in trying to convince the unconvincible.

It was a hoot in the beginning, though, to read some of the posts about WMDs being discovered (but not reported), the three mystery ships taking their forbidden cargo to who-knows-where, and the truck caravans going west across the desert carrying CBWs that somehow got by the UN inspectors. There was even one poster who finally got outed as a fraud (can't remember his nick, though) after he'd gained a sizeable following among the gullible.

Too bad you weren't around for all those exciting times, John. Or were you?
