Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday warned against taking seriously comments his Senate colleague John McCain of Arizona made on Saturday, in which the Arizona lawmaker compared President Trump's actions toward the press to "how dictators get started."
"The thing is, I don't agree with his analysis and applying that to the president," Paul told Jon Karl, guest host of ABC's "This Week." "Everything that [McCain] says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute he's got running with President Trump and it should be taken with a grain of salt, because John McCain's the guy that's advocated for war everywhere. He would bankrupt the nation."
Paul, known for his noninterventionist foreign policy, also expressed relief that the 2008 Republican presidential nominee did not have a chance to act on his views as a commander in chief.
"And actually, we're very lucky John McCain's not in charge because I think we would be in perpetual war," Paul said.

More like with a grain silo of salt.
He’s right.
McCain can’t let it go, and his boy Graham lost. Also tat his pals in Syria are not being backed like he wants, and Russia is beating them to a pulp.
McCain needs to shut the hell up.
Paul has become an ardent Trump supporter. They share many of the same views!
Paul is trying to be nice to Mc Cain, but if he said what he really thinks of Mc Cain, there would be a few expletives.
Rand Paul should have referred to him as a Wacko-Bird-War-Monger~!
It’s just the way McCain likes it: he can be the loud-mouth while 99 of his peers hold him back.
He is a very impressive guy. He handles questions deftly and honestly, with just a little humor now and then.
He appears to be very smart, and a truly independent thinker. He also appears to take his job as Senator very seriously, and tries to do his very best to represent the people of Kentucky and get things done for the United States.
Finally someone defending the President from McTraitor. It’s a start. It will
take a lot more but it is a start. You think McCain ever went on foreign soil
and attacked Obama?
Chalk up a +2 for Paul.
And if McCain did go overseas and called Obama the next Hitler, the media would be calling for his career to be over - not having round tables to celebrate him.
I like everything I have heard about Sen. Paul’s Obamacare replacement.
One of the best things: You can use HSA funds on vitamins, health club etc.
Break the monopoly of Big Pharma, Big Medicine!
[Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday warned against taking seriously comments his Senate colleague John McCain]
Wise leaders weigh their words before speaking. Words MEAN something. If SENATOR MCCAIN’S comments can’t be taken seriously, what does that say for the votes he casts?
MCCAIN should be censored by fellow SENATORS and stripped of any chairmanship he holds. He deliberately overstepped the boundaries of his SENATORIAL POSITION by maliciously undermining our COMMANDER IN CHIEF’S foreign policy to foreign leaders. That is sedition.
Good for Rand Paul. I don’t buy into everything he says, but his analysis of Juan McInsane is spot on.
More recently, his own favorite candidate, Graham, likewise was voter rejected. That's enough to make him a grumpy old man.
The question is: whose team will he join--Schumer's or Trump's?
McCain is fond of “golden showers.” As long as it’s the Media giving them to him.
And an ounce of lithium.
McCain’s problem is that the Press can play him like a fiddle. All they have to do is start calling him “maverick” and writing puff pieces on him — then he will do their bidding.
