A Christian university in Texas has created a prayer room for its Muslim students.
The Methodist-affiliated McMurry University dedicated the space in one of the schools residential dorms for its Muslim students daily prayers.
Before its creation, Muslim students met for prayer in a nearby hotel, a student who helped establish the new prayer room told The College Fix in an interview.
That student, Joe Yousef, is president of McMurrys Saudi Student Club. Of the roughly 1,000 students attending McMurry, about 60 are Muslim and many come from Saudi Arabia, Yousef said.
Yousef said now that Muslim students have a prayer room on campus, it will be much easier for them to meet both their religious and scholastic obligations.
On Friday, we get together and sometimes we have to go home to pray and we need to be in university so we dont have time to go home, Yousef said.
Yousef admitted that some people at McMurry didnt like the idea of having the prayer room.
Some students are also supportive.
Being Christians, we should be open to free religion and letting everyone do what they want to do and I think the Muslim prayer room gives them that chance, student Hector Flores told BigCountry.com.
McMurrys chaplain, Jeff Lust, and Dr. Mark Waters, professor of religion and director of international education, reportedly helped the students in their effort. Lust did not respond to a request for comment from The College Fix.
McMurrys associate director of communications, Gary Ellison, did not respond to requests for comment either.
Lust told KTXS that the room is a step in the right direction.
We anticipate over time well have students from a variety of countries and possibly different religions, Lust said. We need to learn to live and work together in this world that is increasingly diverse and then we can truly become better together.
The room will also serve as a meeting place for a new interfaith club, which is slated to meet for the first time Feb. 21, according to Yousef.
He said he will help lead the interfaith club in the hopes that it will help students of different faiths understand each other better.
We are going to talk about faith and belief, he said. Some people have their own bias. We want people to get together, so we can help each other out.
Why would a Muslim want to go to a Christian University? Aren’t they afraid they might self combust?
(I know, they want to invade and change the school, rape the student women and kill infidels. It’s coming)
Well said.
These naive Christians will learn the truth too late.
Hate to break the news, but not everybody/everything calling itself “Christian” is Christian. I can call my car a jet plane, but it won’t fly.
I believe a curse is now in effect.
I have never seen any examples of the muslims reciprocating tolerance.
One way tolerance is tyranny.
Sometimes, the liberals address this issue, and point to a time in Cordoba Spain, in the middle ages, as a time of peaceful coexistence among Christians, Jews, and Muslims.
My response to that is, we have to go back to Medieval Europe to find some semblance of peaceful coexistence of Muslims and others????? Really???? They can’t cite any other more recent examples of this in history?????
Why would Muslim students choose to attend a Christian university in the first place?

Sometimes you go to what’s available where you live. Abilene isn’t the most populated
area in Texas and daily driving distance say to Ft. Worth is around 150 miles.
Back in the day, Hardin-Simmons Univ was good, old fashioned Baptist.
I honestly don’t care about the prayer room. What I care about is, are Americans turned away from the university in order for larger numbers of high foreign tuition students from lands that are not our friends? I also enjoy the international flavor of college campuses around the world. I did a year abroad and my son wants to do a semester abroad. But it’s pretty sad if our own students can’t get in while foreign countries are bilked for high tuitions.
Are there moslem schools that are setting aside spaces for Christians to pray?
Forgot about HSU.
The Methodist-affiliated “McMurry University” is not a Christian university. McMurry is a heathen cesspool with McMurrys Jeff Lust and Dr. Mark Waters being two of the floaters.
ACU has to compete with Pepperdine in CA.
I can see why.
Abominable. What fellowship can light have with darkness?
Well, here's one that clearly has never cracked open the Bible. Something about the way, the truth and the light comes to mind.
SUBMIT THIS!
At college, my team entered a room that had Muslims in there ‘praying’ on the floor. The team said “excuse us”, and began to exit the room. I said get back in, this our room too.
We did our business and the Muslims departed.
Stand up to bullies and they back down. Go chicken and they will be gang raping your women.
It used to be children were protected in public with little fear. Wackjob Islamics will bully them, attack & assault children in groups.
Stand up now or submit later. It is easy to do. They are cowards.
Try this. Enter the Islamic room and get on your hands and knees. Say a bunch of stupid stuff loudly. The room ‘leader’ will want to shut you up. But they are denying your religious right.
Nobody appointed him leader. Nobody can deny your right to practice. Saying stupid stuff is your expression of the Koran. But say measured sentences.
Sue the school if they boot you out of the room. Alinsky says use their rules against them. :-)
VERY NICELY DONE MRS TRUMP. GOD BLESS YOU!
To impose their religious will on the rest even thought they are the minority. It is right out of their playbook. It’s how they have taken over Europe.
