Showing support for the national "Day Without Immigrants" protest, a popular restaurant in Takoma is closed on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Busboys and Poets will not serve customers at any of its six locations throughout the Washington, DC, area Thursday, including the Takoma restaurant at 235 Carroll St. NW.
"As an immigrant myself, I had a duty to stand in solidarity with my staff," owner Anas "Andy" Shallal, an Iraqi-American artist, activist and restaurateur told Patch. "We had a deep, heartfelt conversation and it was an easy decision. There are times when standing on the sidelines is not an option."

Since they decided to publicize their political activity like that, they may have lost 20-30 customers per restaurant. Are they going to *gain* 20-30 customers per restaurant? Around here, that's pretty unlikely considering that virtue signalling is a competitive sport around this area.
Oh well, their loss.
something about no sound when a tree falls in the desert comes to mind. Really who gives a damn? Just get out of our country pronto and make Mexico Great Again.
I think Trump’s press conference yesterday took a lot of wind out of their sails. All that money lost for nothing.
We shopped for our dinner; cooked our dinner; and washed our own dishes!
Unlikely, very unlikely they closed “out of sympathy” for illegals, rather they were FORCED too close because they had no help that day.
Heard the owner being interviewed by Larry O'Connell yesterday afternoon on WMAL. He is letting them use paid leave and working something out for those employees without available leave balance. He didn't give a rat's behind about employees who may have wished to work that day.
It was voluntary virtue signalling on his part...no doubt after that interview.
We tried to go to one,but it was full of aging hippies sitting with no food a dirty tables. We left and went somewhere that was really serving food.
Soon the owner will become a real busboy and will have more time to practice poetry.
Let’s organize “A Day Without Customers”. May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) would be a perfect day.
is that a day off for them with or without pay ??
With, believe it or not.
Let’s be clear — this isn’t a day without immigrants. Its a day without ILLEGAL immigrants. Any shop that closes should be targeted by ICE.
As an immigrant you should have rather saw your duty to show your appreciation and loyalty to the country that allowed you to be a legal immigrant.
That's what past immigrants and refugees to America had done; even when they didn't like America barring entry and deporting others of their family and nationality, they didn't disrespect or challenge America's right to bar and deport them .
"Andy" Shallal demonstrators perfectly what type of immigrants or refugees (even if legal) America is getting too many of. Well "Andy" Americans do not need any more of your type. Like Trump says 'allow in only those who love and respect America.'
We could have a weekend without restaurants and see how the busboys like that.
I’ve been without restaurants (with few exceptions) since the economy collapsed in 2007/2008. I “boycott” many things now because it helps me financially; any other effects are gravy...
Busboys and Poets DC location is a short walk from my younger son’s home. Food’s been good, service friendly and prices city-typical. But I never wore a MAGA hat; maybe next time...
Busboys and Terrorists is a Leftist enemy operation. No conservative should ever give them money, period.
See my comment #18. You might as well give your money straight to George Soros.
