(Full article title: Chef Rick Bayless to Close Multiple Chicago Restaurants Out of Respect For Immigration Demonstrations)
Celebrity chef Rick Bayless said Wednesday he would be closing four of his Chicago restaurants "out of respect" for his staff's decision to support a planned civil action in response to recent immigration issues.
Organizers in cities across the U.S. are telling immigrants to miss class, miss work and not shop on Thursday as a way to show the country how important they are to America's economy and way of life.
The protests have been dubbed "A Day Without Immigrants."
Bayless said Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, Xoco and Fonda Frontera will all be closed Thursday.
Twitter users responded with support and criticism after Bayless made the announcement.
"Good call. Some things are bigger than food," one user tweeted.

I propose Every Day Without Rick Bayless
This is a very good way to find out exactly which businesses we need to avoid in the future. I am going to take note.
I cringe at that and the SALT. Not all people can eat that level of SALT. I’m one of them. My daily intake is kept very low as I’ve heart and Meneire’s issues and SALT effects both.
The I read the headline I thought: ‘Good! He get’s it’
My thought being that he was actually CLOSING the restaurants PERMANENTLY - as in: Take This you F’n illegal trash!
But, no - it’s Chi Town and he has to be cool.
Lot’s of better places to eat...
It’s that Child Molester Goat-Tee!
They tried the “day without a Mexican” nonsense before. Response: Make it two.
I can support a “Day without Wetbacks”
The only people offended by the word wetbacks are criminals and their supporters...so who cares?
We all need to take note of these restaurants and businesses that close today and stop using them from now on. Show THEM our protest!
Yeah, let’s try A Year Without Illegal Aliens. For a start.
These idiots are giving the public a list of establishments to avoid. Next step is to boycott these places permanently.
I managed to survive the day without Mexicans in CA. Plenty of other folks know how to make tacos.
If he’s hired illegal aliens, isn’t he breaking the law?
He needs to be investigated and if so, brought up on charges in a court of law.
Everyone pick up this load toward educating the trendy upon the difference between a bonafide immigrant desiring to join the U.S., and a claim jumper wanting the benefits without any investment.
Maybe diners should avoid Rick’s restaurants out of respect for the law.
Is somebody going to tell these fools that the majority of we the people, and our elected officials are not against IMMIGRANTS??? Oh wait. They know, but are purposely being obtuse and twisting the context so they can squash even illegal alien protest in order to fulfill their open border agenda. I forgot.
It takes three months to get reservations for his Chicago trendy restaurants, so no big deal, but here’s a little tip.
If you’re in Chicago, there’s a quaint little gourmet Meixican place on Wells Street called Salpicon. You can get reservations anytime, and the food is better, yes better than Bayless, and you payless.
His cheap wetback labor decided to take the day off. Note to ICE: target rich environment.
“Day without illegals”
Does that mean a day without drunk driving, manslaughter and rape too?
This is rich; all of these “legal” employees get the day off without pay; while the illegals will be hanging out at Home Depot parking lot waiting for someone to pick them up for day labor.
:: all of these legal employees get the day off without pay ::
You might want to “circle-round” with Rick Bayless regarding the local kitchen help and their “pay” schedule for today.
I suspect that the immigrants are asked to ^shut-up-and-put-up^ lest they are terminated. Mr. Bayless is a capitalist, after-all.
