A German Shepherd named Rumor won Best in Show at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New Yorks Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
Rumor was a sentimental favorite of the crowd, having finished second in 2016.
This marked the end of a drought for the breed, which had last won in 1987.

Don’t get an AKC Shepard. They have been bred for a look and have serious hip and health issues due to the sever slop of the back. If you want a real dog that is healthy get one from working dog lines from Europe. I have one with Yugoslavian breed lines and he was less than $700 with no hip issues. However be aware these are high energy/ high prey drive dogs that needs a lot of interaction.
Dogs.................
fUNNIEST MOVIE
I think your right. The GSD with the slopped back does not look strong in the hips. The Belgian is a much better looking dog. We have a black Sheppard mix who weighs 40 lbs and is beautiful and healthy. A rescue. That is a cheaper option and the mixes seem healthier.
"We have so much in common...uhhh...we both like...SOUP.."
She’s a beautiful dog and shows so well for her owner. I thought the boxer showed better but hey I wasn’t the judge.
I hope Trump invites them to the White House.
Adopt/Rescue. Plenty of wonderful opportunities.
You don’t “need” a dog with AKC papers unless you’re a serious breeder.
I had a German Shepherd pass away 2 yrs ago; if I got one from the same breeder it would be $6-7K now! His prices have quadrupled in 15 yrs. Those are working line/German blood instead of the American ones.
Before that we had 2 poorly bred local ones, as I live in puppy mill territory.
German Shepherds are the best dogs on the planet IMO. I love all dogs, but have a giant soft spot for the Shepherds. They can be the best friend a person can have.
That would be some dog!
Mine is 5 years old from a line East German dogs generally bred for guard duty and Shutzein(?). The dog is lean and beautiful.
And a lot less than 7,500.
Dogs are bred for tasks, not just for looks. The wrong breed in the wrong home is a challenge for everyone.
Very good show this year - even though I had to pay to watch it.
Well deserved win.
Our last German Shepherd that we bought not rescued was 600 dollars from a breeder that specialized in police service dogs.Hanna was an excellent guard and a good friend.
My next one will probably be a German Shepherd- I don’t like what the American breeders did by lowering the hindquarters. I plan to find one with a strong German line.
HAHA I LOLed at this...thanks :)
Schaferhund.
And that is for the cost of a pet-quality puppy? I understand all about pricing going up, I’m actually a GSD breeder that has mixed bloodlines, mine are larger than American GSD but are straight-backed and we focus on health (my main male is almost 12 and sired a litter a few months ago) and family companions so not as intense. Hard to believe that the $6-$7k is for a pet dog, not one intended to go to a working home or already started.
German Shepherds are great dogs - or were great dogs before the idiots breeding them in the states started pushing the freakish low hip monstrosities the Kennel Club appears to lust after.
There is a reason law enforcement departments use Belgians and import German Shepherds from Germany.
My first dog, back in the 1960s, was a German Shepherd. She was a great animal and had none of this freakish appearance promoted by the German Shepherd fanciers in America today.
Beautiful!
