President Trump approved Tuesday disaster relief for California, putting an end to speculation that the bad blood between the White House and Gov. Jerry Brown would jeopardize the state’s plea for emergency aid. The Federal Emergency Management Administration announced that the assistance would be provided “due to the emergency conditions resulting from the potential failure of the emergency spillway at Lake Oroville Dam beginning on February 7, 2017, and continuing.” Mr. Brown, a Democrat who called Mr. Trump a “fraud” during last year’s presidential campaign, made the request for federal help Friday after heavy rainstorms inundated Northern California, flooding creeks, washing out roads and damaging infrastructure. The crisis culminated Sunday with the evacuation of nearly 200,000 residents near the Oroville Dam, which saw sheets of water cascade over its earthen walls and an enormous sinkhole open up on the emergency concrete spillway. In its statement, FEMA said the president’s action would allow the agency to coordinate disaster relief in order to alleviate “hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population,” and provide assistance “in order to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the counties of Butte, Sutter, and Yuba.”

I personally think Brown is telling illegals and activists one thing and telling Trump another.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he secretly aided Trump in order to get more funds.
Remember, this guy has no real convictions.
Steel plating could be temporarily fastened over the giant pothole in the spillway. It would at least mitigate erosion.
Please provide us with an example of “coming apart” on Trump’s tweets and why you view them as “coming apart”.
He’s the President. He should be above the sort of petty politics Democrats typically play on stuff like this.
Any money given to repair the dam should come with federal oversight. Otherwise the money will end up in the train bank account and band aids will be placed on the dam.
The reason I ax is because she must have plenty of time on her hands these days; she was just in Pawnee County, Oklahoma trying to get some attention for herself and one would assume some money too on the fracking issue. (Funny, I doubt if she looks like Julia Roberts c. 1996)
I think she kinda got ignored or something and just went home and is now back in California talking about Oklahoma people.
So she ought to have time to be doing something about this, maybe she and those like her could lend a hand to the honest people who've been run out of their homes.

Trump could offer the money as a federal loan. If California accepts and then misses a payment...foreclose on California.
In the minds of some, speaking the truth (which is what those tweets emininently are) is “coming apart”.

California has a problem, there are liberals and conservatives in the state- but they are Americans. How about we stop the negativity.
I am willing to admit that I have been negative in my comments of some threads.
I have known for many years of reading comments that FR attracts the most knowledgable people, time to get moving for finding solutions.
This is not a red state blue state issue, this is an issue that is impacting Americans
You must be right. I went to Trump’s twitter feed expecting something unsettling. All I found was a succinct set of highly pertinent, well phrased comments, many re the leaks from the intelligence community. All were excellent.
Imagine if President Trump did nothing and people died. He has to at least take their phone calls.

People did die in Nashville in 2010. Obama didn’t care and neither did the National News Media.

IIRC, Obama ignored Texas when they requested emergency aid for wildfires in 2011. He ignored Nashville when they were in need of emergency aid for destructive flooding that killed many in 2010. But Republicans are responsible. So, we will bail out California, even though they ignored engineers when they were told the dam needed repairs. Obama couldn’t have cared less when areas perceived as Conservative needed help. We are better than that
