LOS ANGELES - A tennis commentator dropped by ESPN for a remark about Venus Williams during the Australian Open has sued the sports network for wrongful termination.

Former tennis pro Doug Adler maintains he was describing Williams’ aggressive style last month as “guerrilla” tactics and not comparing her with a “gorilla.”

He apologized for his poor word choice but was let go from ESPN mid-tournament.

I recall when Cosell got in hot water for saying "that little monkey" during a football game and it was shown afterwards he used the term previously for a white player.

It would seem ESPN is treating this guy quite niggardly.

I recall Cosell saying about a black receiver that had just made a great catch ...

“His arms are so long his knuckles drag on the ground.”

“Captain Ron” had this same problem. ESPN needs to step back and take a deep breath. Maybe lighten up a little.

No kidding. Remember when James Watt had to resign for using the word niggardly.

I think a student at Michigan State was expelled for saying a Black girl was as loud as a water buffalo, water ever that means. Seems water bufalo and water melon sound too close.

The case will never get to a jury. California is an "at-will" state, meaning any employee can quit, or be fired, at any time with or without reason. The only exception is if there is an employment contract which says otherwise; and since he didn't sue for breach of contract, we can assume he didn't have one.

“The tennis match was like a war.”

Please see the movie Capt Jack and use of words: guerrilla vs gorilla

gorilla/ guerrilla. You might see a gorilla in a zoo, but a guerrilla (sometimes spelled with one “r”), is someone who belongs to a group of independent fighters. ... Guerrilla comes from the Spanish word for a war made up of skirmishes. That guerilla is related to guerra for (you guessed it), war.
gorilla vs. guerrilla

"Guerrilla" or "Gorilla"

Note to self: use the Spanish pronunciation of this word next time.

Extra trill on the "rr" just to make sure.
