"President Trump has made it very clear that he expects the Russian government to de-escalate violence in the Ukraine and return Crimea," Spicer said at a daily news briefing. "At the same time, he fully expects to and wants to get along with Russia."

Because the Ukrainians can’t stop them.

That’s not happening. For one reason Putin is never going to give up that naval port and objectively speaking its understandable. Second the majority of people in the Crimea are Russian speaking and Orthodox. They want gone with Russia.

What Trump is likely end gaming for is to keep the Ukraine independent. That’s the best outcome we will get.

sorry Charlie - you’ve been reading MSM neo-con fake news.

Crimea wasn’t returned to Russia via force of arms.

About the same time we give the Navy base at San Diego back to Mexico. Although that’s a poor analogy because the Russians have had Crimea for about 60 years longer.

Moronic. They will never surrender a place to NATO where they have had a population and navy base since 1783.

And they’d be no match for a combined joint operation of all NATO nations.”

Do you actually imagine a non-nuclear shooting war between NATO and Russia? How do you see this unfolding and ending?

“Oh, then why are they still fighting?”

They have what they want and are simply fending off Ukrainian militia attacks as they come. So likely the fighting will never stop. The Russians have no designs on anything else, and the coup insists it has a right to inherit all of what old Ukraine possessed.
So the low level fighting will probably never stop as long as the Ukes get supported by their benefactors.

Not going to happen. Russia needs Ukraine. Coal,iron ore,huge agrosector the Antonov aircraft factory,the warm water ports of the Black Sea. All of Ukraine is at risk.

China acquired Hong Kong through peaceful negotiations with the UK. No comparison.

Actually, the UK's 99 year lease was only the New Territories of Kowloon. Hong Kong Island was ceded to the UK in perpetuity. It was wrong that Thatcher and her predecessor caved to the threats and blandishments of China to return the whole territory. It is time we corrected this historical injustice.

Yet it was negotiations, not little green men who suddenly invaded.

Nor can Putin stop the Ukrainians. So if Putin the all powerful bare-chested bad ass cannot push out the Ukranians, he’ is a p*ssy.

I think you’re reading his mind, speculating, assuming. Why do Ukrainian ports belong to Putin? Hasn’t Russia exploited Ukraine enough? How many million Ukrainians were starved by Russia in the 1930s? How brutal was Russia’s cultural suppression of Ukrainian culture for hundreds of years? Why would any American want to be Putin’s, PUTIN’S, apologist for naked aggression against a peaceful neighbor who only longs to be free?

It won’t start unless Putin attacks a NATO nation, which is why he fear NATO. He doesn’t fear the relatively weak NATO countries, especially the new weak ones, because they will or migh attack Russia. He fears NATO because now he cannot attack a lot of neighboring countries that are relatively weak to Russia. Before he could bully the Baltic nations. And that would have made his fan club cheer, some on this site. After all, he’s a tough guy, and might makes right to them and morals and mass murder do not matter. But he can’t attack all of NATO without being destroyed. He’s a former damned communist expediently turned ultra nationalist using demagogic arguments to keep himself in power and beyond prosecution for his many terrible crimes. We’re talking about con man, not a mad man. If he were a true mad man nationalist, he’d have taken Europe when Obama removed all of the US Army’s armor.

Trump is being heavily manipulated by anti-russia people. He was on the right track when he was trying to thaw relations.
I think there’s too many people in the swamp dependent on having Russia be the bad guys.

You believe that’s the extent of Putin’s imperial designs? Really? You think he’s on the up and up? He didn’t say that the worst thing that happened in the 20th Century was the collapse of the Soviet Union? He doesn’t aspire to restore Russia to world Super Power status, just helping a minor region in Ukraine? OMG. I remember leftist being duped by the Soviet Union’s crass propaganda, but I think you’re possibly presenting evidence of the most credulity ever of Putin’s ambitions. Just a nice former KGB man, Colonel, turned ultra nationalist Russian Orthodox Christian national chauvinist who is misunderstood and merely helping a small region in Ukraine.

Trump should have gone on TV to announce:

a) there is no FBI investigation-- routine eavesdropping intercepted Flynn talking to the Russian ambassador;
b) all incoming NSA's talk to the Great Powers;
c) the media is lying about a purported investigation;
d) Flynn may have misspoken, but did not deliberately misinform anyone;
e) Flynn has my full confidence and will remain as NSA

Trump didn't do this, so I suspect there's more to it. My guess is (d) is incorrect-- Flynn misled them about something.

I think so too, but again, that’s speculation. We don’t know. As is, the best case is to hope he goes away and is gone.
