I don’t believe Russia will ever give up Crimea.

I do believe putting the spotlight on it can help pressure Russia into backing down in mainland Ukraine. Just as Putin started the war in Ukraine to shift the focus away from Crimea, Trump can do the reverse as a way of prying Russia out of eastern Ukraine.

But, no, Russia will never give up Crimea.

The only way Russia would surrender Crimea would be upon unconditional access to Sebastopol, which the Ukraine denied and gave rise to the conflict currently underway. So, asymptotically close to zero...

Will no doubt be used as leverage to get Russia out of Donbass. But I really do not think Russia will exit Crimea. And NATO/USA will not force the issue militarily.

Trump will succeed in countering Russian aggression in this respect. People keep saying he’s soft and a Russian syncophant, but I sincerely believe he’s playing Chess with Putin while Obama played checkers.

That is what he says he wants. What the Russians will do is maintain their only warm water port and the access there to which is in their national interest. What we need to do is not over throw duly , legally and properly elected governments like we did in the Ukraine with a military junta paid for by printing more money here. That of course CAUSED Russia to protect its port and easement which was under lease until the year 2042. Quit screwing with other folks democratically elected sovereign governments!!

Meanwhile, Maxine Waters is mainly concerned about Limpopo.

If the lawful, constitutional government of Ukraine is restored, I can see that happening. Not otherwise though.

Anyone who thinks Russia will hand over Crimea to a hostile Ukraine - and with it, their most important naval base and shipbuilding facilities, and only warm-water port - has a mental handicap.

Well, that’s just delusional then.

Even in the Donbas, Ukraine’s strategy has been to terrify any additional cities or towns from joining the secession movement; there’s no way they could ever govern the Donbas again. Their tactics make Gen. Sherman look like he was trying to “win the hearts and minds of the people” of Georgia.

Even if Russia abandoned any claim to Crimea, there’s no way in Hell Crimea would return to Ukraine. Crimea would be devastated, but would go it alone as a “frozen state.”

However, none of the other revanchists you seemingly are identified have recently used military force to achieve these goals. So it’s not a great way to look at it unless you want to expose the fact that normally nations don’t reset borders as Putin did. It wasn’t a legitimate way, and it was against a treat Russia had signed.

Crimea wanted to leave, regardless of access to Sevastopol. Ukraine only denied access, which was guaranteed by treaty, after Russia endorsed the result of the Crimean status referendum.

Yes, those claims are as valid as Putin’s are to Crimea and to other parts of Ukraine. Using the same logic Putin should give back Kaliningrad to Germany and large parts of Poland to the Poles. That’s the danger of accepting Putin’s hybrid war of little green men.

That should be the first thing we do.

Give it back. Move the Capital to Wichita.

That should put an end to career politicians.
