Your additional links, posted while I was typing, gave me more info. Thanks!

I will add them to my daily prayers.
There is no possible contingency plan for this much water.
150 years ago the entire Central Valley would become an inland sea in the spring...every year.
If they’d built the concrete floodways, the erosion wouldn’t be threatening dams
And if they’d built the other reservoirs they needed and had been delaying for decades per environmentalists, you’d be seeing the reservoirs fill up instead of existing dams threatened with overflow.
Oops! Well, there ya go! ;)
Ditto for my family as well.. all conservatives and Trump voters. And thanks for the prayers on their behalf, and prayers up for your family as well. In what county are they?
Butte County, I believe. My cousin and his family moved there from Orange County about 2 years ago. Last year his sister and parents who all live in Baton Rouge LA. lost everything in the flood there. My aunt and uncle are now renting a small place and will probably never be able to return to their house. My cousin’s house was serverely damaged and is still under repair.
CA listened to their 97% consensus scientists and thought the drought would last forever, so why bother fixing the overflows?
A bit like London a few years ago when they listened to their 97% scientists and got rid of snow removal equipment because “children will never see snow again”.
I’m not sure if you remember our mini-disaster with Lake Delton and the dam breaking here in Wisconsin? No one was killed, but the entire lake drained away and took a lot of luxury homes with it, and effected tourism in The Wisconsin Dells for a number of years. The damn is fixed and the lake restored, but what a mess and what an expense!

Trump’s fault.
Do the dam operators not watch the weather? With today’s technologies everyone knows the weather conditions 10+ days out. It’s not rocket science. If big rains come, which they do this time of year... duuuuuuh.... then lower the water level BEFORE the rains.
Yes, I’ve lived below a dam and spillway for mumble years. Back before the dam operators huddled behind computer screens two hours away, they were outside manually monitoring the situation (wow, what a concept!) and we didn’t have such severe flooding problems.
My SIL’s family used to own property along the Sac River arm of the lake. They could only use a small portion of the property, as a camp. There were too many marijuana growers around, who let it be known that they should not stray far from their camp area. Forget about building a cabin.
Wow! Prayers sent for all of them.. they certainly know disaster, for sure!
West of the lake, in Humboldt County even the rangers know what roads NOT to drive on. Many of their trucks get ‘warning shots’ resulting in holes, if they do. SO much land up there, so well protected, the state just let’s them be. Been like that since my childhood (in my 50’s now)
More snow and rain starting Thursday and lasting for several days.
Was that Wham?
on the bright side, the gold panning will be awesome when the rain stops.
It’s crazy and there is no accountability.
