Four Republican senators have withdrawn their support for Labor Secretary nominee Andrew Puzder after he admitted to hiring an undocumented immigrant as his housekeeper, Law Newz reported.
Per sources, Sens. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Tim Scott, and Johnny Isakson have all said they will not support Puzder, a chief executive of Hardee's parent company, because of all the hiccups ahead of his confirmation hearing.
Puzder said in a statement Feb. 6 he and his wife had employed a housekeeper for three years but didn't know she was in the U.S. illegally.
"When I learned of her status, we immediately ended her employment and offered her assistance in getting legal status," he said. "We have fully paid back taxes to the IRS and the State of California."

“What more is the guy supposed to do?”
If he’s not smart enough to check, and spot somebody he SHOULD check, he’s not smart enough for the position.
Best case scenario is that he didn’t care.
Wow, this Kinda reminds me of 20 years ago when people cared about the law.
He had to have guessed she was illegal, otherwise she could’ve easily have shown documents. He obviously didn’t ask. And then offering to help get her legal status? He should’ve made sure she was deported. Get rid of this jerk.
Hopefully to implement E-Verify !!!
Thank you grania! I thought I was on DU for a while

Cow patties...
it didn’t matter to him because he goes on to say “When I learned of her status, we immediately ....offered her assistance in getting legal status,”
Someone who cared would have used E-Verify and would have got her deported “immediately” when they found out she had lied...
Don’t tell me a US Senator cant get hold of immigration records...
You do understand that many people who have household help rely on “services” to provide & vetthe employees? I don’t know the situation here, but that could well be the case.
Almost every incoming President loses one Cabinet nomination; I predicted from the start it would be this guy.
LOL
I must have been channeling you for my comment #45...
:)
I like Hardee’s food too, but I don’t think the Trump cabinet needs any Cheap Labor Express guys in it.
I knew he was one even before I knew he had hired an illegal alien himself, he had made many statements in support of amnesty.
One thing many forget is that amnesty for the illegal aliens is also amnesty for their employers.
When was he a “US Senator?” I thought he ran Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr.
I’m against him - I said it sends a message. But I’m not gonna boycott burgers over this one ...
Well . . . bye, Puzder. You lose. Let’s get us a labor secretary who won’t have us all on welfare due to automation.
He was supposed to pay the taxes at the time and report it to the IRS who would have told him they had a no match if she gave him a fake SS#.
He knew she wasn’t legal, that’s why he was paying her under the table and not reporting the taxes.
Get her azz deported?
Linda Chavez missed out on her appointment by GWB for the same kind of thing.
Two of Bill Clintons appointees withdrew for similar circumstances.
People like that usually use an agency I would think, and depend on the agency to do background checks and things like that. Sounds like she may have been using another person’s identity or a fake identity.
I cannot imagine anyone would hire a housekeeper without checking them out, for so many reasons.
If he did let her go when he realized it; and got straight with taxes and other legalities I don’t know what else he could be expected to do.
Many of the documents illegals use are real, just not theirs, I know some can pass a background check. I personally know of one that was working in a Homeland Security facility, and had passed the background check to be there. On the first day of work the other employees became suspicious and they did learn the person was illegal and documents used did not belong to that person. If DHS can be fooled...
I was aware of a criminal ring operating out of Balboa Island in Newport Beach, CA (extremely rich area) that supplied illegal maids to wealthy women in that area. The wealthy women hiring the illegals knew what was going on. I suspect that Pudzer let his wife run the house. That is not a good exuse
No, he knew she was an illegal alien or he would have been paying the taxes all along and not paying her under the table.
I was in LA recently - saw a van advertising ‘Naked Maids’ - that’s a little over the top ...
Ahhhhhh ..!!!!! Transportation Secretary !!
My bad. I forgot she was not Labor Secy. Sorry.
