Four Republican senators have withdrawn their support for Labor Secretary nominee Andrew Puzder after he admitted to hiring an undocumented immigrant as his housekeeper, Law Newz reported.
Per sources, Sens. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Tim Scott, and Johnny Isakson have all said they will not support Puzder, a chief executive of Hardee's parent company, because of all the hiccups ahead of his confirmation hearing.
Puzder said in a statement Feb. 6 he and his wife had employed a housekeeper for three years but didn't know she was in the U.S. illegally.
"When I learned of her status, we immediately ended her employment and offered her assistance in getting legal status," he said. "We have fully paid back taxes to the IRS and the State of California."

The Carl’s Jr. Franchises around here require E-Verify when they hire.
I would think the Democrats would love the fact that he hired an Illegal. They seem to have more love of Illegals than average American Citizens.
Meg Whitman has no comment
The only cabinet nominee i never liked. For a few years here,on the local job market boards Hardee’s has listed job opening in Spanish.Pretty hard to claim “i didn’t know”.Cheap labor express guy, good riddance.
It all depends upon when he discovered it and how quickly he acted. If it was after September of 2016, I’m not buying it. If it was years ago, he should be confirmed.
Agree. Hard not to know your housekeeper isn’t legal. If you’re fooled that easily you don’t need to be in the cabinet.
> I seem to recall this same kind of revelation back in 2001 with the first Labor Secretary nominee.
Linda Chavez, if I recall.
How about having her deported? He obviously didn’t pay SS taxes for her because that comes back as soon as you make the payment
Meh...Confirm him unless Trump can find someone to make the Leftists even angrier.
Yup.
"Nannygate" derailed Clinton's first choice for AG, Zoë Baird, AND then derailed his second choice, Kimba Wood. Similar problems scuttled Bush's nominations of Linda Chavex and Bernie Kerik. This isn't the very first time that this has happened. Professional career politicians are more careful about stuff like this.
I thought we already have a Labor Secretary - McConnell’s wife ..???
Who is this Pudzer guy .. and what happened to McConnell’s wife ..??
Linda Chavez has gone totally over to the dark side on this issue ...
This is the one appointment AI am not comfortable with.
This guy is a Cheap Labor Express Republican who advocated for amnesty and hired illegal aliens.
I say dump him.
He is not qualified for the position.
Anyone who hires an illegal is not fit the serve...unless it’s serving time.
I think she’s Transportation Sec
It figures that our girl MurCOW ski would object. Why doesn’t anyone ask her about illegals in the Alaska seafood processing industry.
Yes, agreed .. don’t want someone who hired wetbacks himself (regardless having paid the back taxes) presuming to oversee the laying of fines on companies accused of same.
Why do we have a department of labor?
No, you got it right.
He is a jerk, but I still like his burgers ...
