I believe the posted video does not show maximum release rate. There are spillway gates at the top of the structure that can open and release a veritable deluge.

Look at all that water! This is our first look from the base of the main spillway at Lake Oroville since the emergency spillway was used. Here’s the latest update: https://goo.gl/wEVu1O

Another article describing some of the other work going on at the Dam. It appears that the debris at the bottom of the spillway has created a situation where the generators and bypass (if available) are not available to move water. They are taking steps to clear that mess. The power lines that PG&E removed are in this area, and are not those that lead from the dam to the main substation to the west. So once the mess is cleared, they should be able to run the generation again.

It’s nice to see a lot of grass/earth showing up where there was water a few days ago!

That cement rig looks like it’s off to the side of the main spillway, where that temporary (permanent) road was made to get to the far end of the “emergency” spillway. Perhaps they’re continuing to shore up that area in case it needs to be used again.

With the upcoming rain and spring melt, that is prudent.

This image seems to be a copy of what a person posted on imgur.com

The image was taken Feb 14, 2017 AM (you can see the shadow angle of the heavy lift helicopter in the parking lot).

So this image doesn’t reveal what they were working on in the upper main spillway last night with the concrete pumping truck.

Perhaps it may be talked about in the press update today.

Since they stopped all flights over the dam, they don’t want us to see real news.

They could have set a low altitude limit, preventing all aircraft below a certain altitude to keep the helicopters safe.no

Sorry, if I sound like an unbelieveable Deploreable.

After decades living in California, I know not to believe nor trust:

1. Anything from the Brown thugs and their fellow rat thugs in the state legislature down to the rat thugs in charge of our cities and counties.

2. Any so called news from the print mediots in California.

3. Tv reports with known close relations to #1 or #2 above.

I’ve confirmed there was NO damage & thus no emergency repair work performed late last night on the upper Main Spillway sidewall.
Re: post 999

They do still have the rapid back erosion from the massive mid failure of the Main spillway. A new chunk of the slab base has broken off & is now angled. That angle is toward the sidewall flow in the first image in post 999.

We have many good Freporters and good experts commenting on these threads.

Kudos to the ones pinged above and the many I missed.

Hopefully this last minute action taken will work on the spillways.

There is another bigger issue, and Mariner and I have tried to bring that into focus.

Water flows downstream and into the streams, rivers, creeks, reservoirs below Oroville to Sac and then the Sacramento River and its tribs into the Delta.

With the rains predicted this week and later over and into these watersheds, we could be facing a huge and terrible situation. We don’t have room for any large amounts of rain and run off down stream.

Mild rain is hitting some of the areas north of SF at this time. 10:38 am, 8/15. I don’t think that was predicted for these areas, this early.

The NWS is still forecasting (as of 7:30AM today) an absurd amount of precip in the catchment basin over the next 6 days: Oroville watershed 6-day precip forecast photo IMG_1045.png
