Thank you so much! I had such a good time at the Cemetery today. In addition to a complete tour of the Crematory, we toured the cemetery to look at the old and historic graves. I thought I knew a lot about the graves, but I was most certainly mistaken! At the risk of sounding macabre, I'll tell you the unvarnished truth ... lol. As a teenager, I used to search that cemetery for old graves (of my very old relatives) and during my searches, I came across rather historic graves but until today, I had NO idea about the graves of the relatives of former U.S. presidents, but all make sense now.
Ulysses. S. Grant's son is buried there with his two wives on each side of him! His burial there makes sense because the historic U.S.Grant Hotel still stands in downtown San Diego. His second wife's first name was "America" which I found fascinating. Several graves of the Grant family are in one area with a huge bronze statue which I will write about later because of its historical importance. All in all, I enjoyed a very special day and as it turned out, the nice man is my neighbor in this huge apartment complex. (Small world).
