Throughout the presidential campaign, Donald Trump pledged to take action on a host of issues, as all candidates tend to do when running for election. Now that he's president, Trump is actually following through.
One of those pledges was a promise to enforce existing U.S. immigration laws, including the deportation of those who entered the country illegally.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Trump pressed ahead with his immigration crackdown this week, launching deportation raids across the U.S.
The Independent was even more dramatic:
Panic and terror is said to be running through immigrant communities in the U.S. following raids carried out across at least six states as part of Donald Trumps pledge to crack down on illegal immigrants.
The Daily Beast reported that Trump's deportation force conducted an enforcement surge in multiple cities around the country:
Over the last five days, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted what they call an enforcement surge in the Los Angeles area, arresting more than 160 undocumented immigrants.
Immigrants rights groups and lawyers told The Daily Beast that ICE also increased its enforcement activitiesincluding, in some cases, in apartment buildingsin a number of cities around the country, including Atlanta, Phoenix, Charlotte, and Austin.
The Independent quoted Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Gillian Christensen, who said the raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), were part of routine immigration enforcement actions:
Were talking about people who are threats to public safety or a threat to the integrity of the immigration system.
But Cristina Jimenez, executive director of United We Dream, has a different take:
This is clearly the first wave of attacks under the Trump administration, and we know this isnt going to be the only one."
Sarah Owings, an immigration attorney in Atlanta, sounded a similar alarm:
The muscle to do this kind of stuff is here its just that the leash has been taken off. Theyre out and theyre hunting. Theyre picking up and rounding up anyone they can get."
Listening to the critics one would think that America is a police state, with a Gestapo-like force rounding up panicked and terrorized innocents in the middle of the night, rather than a country attempting to enforce its immigration laws not only for the protection of its indigenous citizens, but for its legal immigrants as well.
Except this has nothing to do with anything to with Trump other than him allowing the ICE agents to do their job. This is normal for ICE and the Border Patrol. It’s what they were hired to do.
The smart ones are self deporting now because they want to find work at home before the wave of humanity comes in from America.
We may need to help Mexico for a little while as much as the idea of helping them accept their own people abhors me. At some point it becomes a humanitarian crisis and they are still our neighbors although for much of America’s history they have been hostile toward us.
I’ll still never forget what they did to the retired Americans who they sold a 99 year lease to on the coast of Baja California Mexico to build their dream homes to retire to then once they were all built they canceled the leases and confiscated the homes for their own benefit. It’s wise to remember the Mexican government and its culture is extremely corrupt and likely will remain so for the foreseeable future centuries to come. It’s probably why they don’t think there’s anything wrong with stealing from someone who appears to be more well off than they are.
I’m not anti-Mexican; only anti-illegal but I have had a lot of bad personal experiences with the illegals (and some legal ones) from South of the border unfortunately. Experiences that shaped my opinions for life.
I just love Mexico!
I lived many years in El Paso and used to walk over to Juarez almost every day to have lunch.
A hamburguesa and a large Coke made with real sugar...mmmmm
When I lived there you felt safer in Juarez than in El Paso...not that way now, sadly.
Here’s a video I made the last time I was in Juarez.

It is the same for all those trying to go to the U.S. legally. Sorry you are having such a tough time. You play by the rule and nada. Not right.
Why are they using illegal inmigrants? The airport officials should be fired or arrested, the Airport itself fined, the remaining illegals fired.
With so many people out of work there is no excuse. If the pay is too low, then increase the pay, that should not be an issue in Seattle, the birthplace of $15 an hour.
Washington state gives drivers licenses to anyone....
This winning thing is fun.

They are not illegal immigrants, they are illegal ALIENS.
