The global warming/environmental movement is perhaps the biggest Communist front group in US history.

(I put “perhaps” because maybe you could make an argument for the civil rights movement in all its phases.)

cough cough. Entertainment & news industry ie. media?

Good one!

It’s had a massive impact and leftist bent.

I guess I didn’t consider it with the other groups because of the media’s diffuseness and lack of a specific area of focus.

But I can see HUAC considering it a front group.

Just to return to the term “Communist front group”:

I overuse it because I love it so much, hearkening back as it does to the happier days of HUAC, Joe McCarthy, and those terrific film-noirish shows about Communist subversion (e.g., the radio show “I Was a Communist for the FBI” with Dana Andrews. You could always tell a Commie because he called you “comrade”!)

Strictly speaking, I think a Communist front group would be a specific organization ostensibly organized for a public service purpose, but in reality controlled and directed by Communists or their sympathizers, whose real aim was to overthrow the Constitution and capitalism.

So Greenpeace could be a Communist front group under that definition, but the whole global warming movement wouldn’t.

Still, I can’t help myself from applying the term as broadly as possible!
