It is the “... condense and boil ...” language that makes no sense.

Intriguing but I suspect not really commercial at present price of oil. You are talking about a huge amount of electrical energy to heat up the shale. It would have to be a shale that is of really high oil content and shallow for this to work. A bit like the tar sands in Canada. It is really all about energy costs to achieve x number of barrels of oil.
According to the link in Post # 37,
“Microwave fracking would only be an estimated 15 to 20 percent more expensive than conventional methods, causing oil giants British Petroleum and ConocoPhillips to heavily invest in the technology.”
And it’s cleaner.
Another benefit could be that if the process vaporizes the petroleum, maybe you could do some oil-refinery-type separation on site.

As to applicability, according to the newsmax article,

Years back, the comparison was made that the area of ANWR (Artic National Wildlife Refuge) that they wanted to drill in was equivalent to a post card in the middle of a football field.

I care about the many Texas engineers and scientists who have been unemployed for months because of low oil prices and who are waiting for the world oil price to go back to $60/barrel, the level at which engineering companies start hiring again. But I also think that, if we plan to become the main energy supplier of the world, we shall have to install major oil facilities in our country, which will force engineering companies to hire for the design, operation and maintenance of these facilities. I also think that natural gas shall become more desirable as a fuel source than oil has been in the past due to environmental considerations. Our abundance of natural gas will become a major contributor to our national wealth, even more so than our oil. You also have to consider that gas requires less processing (expensive) than oil does before it becomes a marketable product. All in all, the program of making America energy independent will create an ocean of job opportunities, nation-wide for many years to last.
