During the 2016 election, Showtime ran a series called "The Circus" featuring the (liberal) "journalists" Mark Halperin, Mark McKinnon, and John Heilemann. Using documentary footage from the campaign, sprinkled with a few "backstage interviews" (very few with Cankles, a couple with Trump, a LOT with Roger Stone), the series concluded the week after the election.
Now, it has been turned into a documentary film, "Trumped: Inside the Greatest Political Upset of All Time." Except it should be entitled "Trump Won but We Can't Begin to Tell You Why, Nor Do We Want To".
Although a few non-white Trump supporters are shown, the film goes out of its way to show almost EVERY Cankles supporter as a minority or woman. Its clips from the primaries and the general election are as expected biased against Trump by selecting every negative incident (a fight at a Trump rally, Chicago mobs shouting "we stopped Trump") and showing almost no negative Cankles coverage -- certainly never explaining why the FBI/server issues were so critically important.
The film ends on election night with the depressed Halperin and Heilemann (who were with Cankles' campaign) ridiculing the rubes who really believe the early election NUMBERS when they, of course, have the more important EXIT POLLS. Only later does it dawn on them that the numbers are in fact right. Not once do they mention Wisconsin. They mention Michigan only in passing. They never discuss the fact that Cankles was absolutely creamed in Ohio--by far more than even I predicted in "How Trump Won." They do focus some on Pennsylvania, but by then the election was over and Trump had won.
There is one key scene, though, that people should take note of. In July, right after Trump won the primaries, Halperin and Heilemann were at a restaurant with Robby Mook (Cankles' campaign manager) and John Podesta (the Evil Emperor). The Politico guys were saying, in essence, "Well, Trump surprised everyone, but you guys know how to get him right? RIGHT????" Mookie of course was sunshine pumping, but Podesta, even at this early date was extremely concerned. He said, in essence, that traditional attacks that worked on other Republicans had not and would not work on Trump, that he was a master of the media.
I think, even then, Podesta knew they were in deep trouble and that the Republicans had nominated the one guy they possibly couldn't beat. Of course, neither of the Politico guys picked up on it.
After the election---and watching election night at the Javits Center with the suicidal snowflakes is worth the time of the rest of the show---Heilemann ascribed Trump's victory to people saying "He's risky, but what we've been doing for 20 years is risky" and that Americans wanted to throw a bomb into Washington and "see where the rubble lands."
Never once is there a serious attempt to understand Trump's appeal, his issues, his voters, why he took three blue states in the heart of the Midwest, or to note, as we point out in the book, that but for 510,000 votes, Trump would have ALSO won ME, NV, CO, NH, MN, VA, and NM!!
There is one scene from the TV series that did not make it into the documentary and I think that's a shame. It's the night before the election, after Cankles' last rally, and Halperin has Podesta again, asking "So, you guys are pretty confident, right?" And again, Podesta delects and dodges, says something about numbers, but absolutely does NOT give a "Yah, sure, we'll win this going away" answer.
Again, I think this is good evidence that Podesta knew, while Moookie was still believing the fake polls. A documentary about what really happened awaits.
i caught most episodes from midway thru the primaries til the end. gave a great insight as to how the insider thug libtard media works, with mcKinnion as the resident rino giving color commentary. their last pre-election episode’s title (praphrased) spoke volumes: “we have no f___king idea”
recorded this recap but haven’t taken time to watch it yet.
I have watched most of the election night coverage recently that has been posted on YouTube. It is fun to see CNN, the first two hours Tapper and Blitzer are dizzy with glee, by midnight they are extremely worried and by 2 am they are downright depressed. PBS has about seven commentators - the two “conservatives’ are David Brooks of the NY Times and Stuart Spencer (or is it Spencer Stuart?) who did such a wonderful job running Romney’s general election campaign. Brooks is on the point of flipping out, at one point hysterically claiming that this is “like Father Coughlin just won the presidency”. Spencer is worse than any Democrat with his bile. There is not one Trump leaner on a network funded by you and me, unwillingly with our tax money. They also have some hysterical nobodies shrieking about how bad this is, to the point where it is quite funny to watch, I laughed long and loud at them.
If I could get the money, I’d do a documentary right.
I like it
But I do have an issue using the word “upset” because I don’t think he ever was polling as badly as was reported. The only reason this surprised the media and the left in general is because they weren’t paying attention.
I have to admit...Podesta's prescience about Trump made me understand why he's been so valuable for so long to Democrats.
Podesta as Clinton's COS.
Podesta as Counsellor to Obama.
Podesta as Hillary's campaign manager
unfortunately, you'd be preaching mostly to the choir
Excellent analysis, as usual.
"I'm so poor I can't even pay attention."
Part of the premise is to deny that other viewpoints exist. That’s why they try to shut people down so violently. Trump was the only candidate that could have won against Hillary, and that’s because he never bought the conventional wisdom that to win you have to have the media’s approval.
Precisely.
No. That’s what D’Souza does and “Facing the Giants” does. Our “Rockin’ the Wall” was reviewed by 14 different sources, including “Bass Player Magazine” and leftie music mags, and got 14 positive reviews.
It is totally possible to make good movies that draw all audiences that have a conservative message. More than a few libs saw “Braveheart” or “Apollo 13.”
Enjoyed your book. I am in the belly of the Blue beast so when I read it on the train I had to hold it so the snowflakes could not see the title.
The O'Keefe undercover videos documented how the sinister Dem left orchestrated violence against the Trump campaign with the low light being Chicago where Trump had to cancel the event.
The Dems and MSM still have not accepted the result witness the attempts to influence the electoral college, the Jill Stein recounts in WI, MI, and PA, the blocking of Trump cabinet appointments, the faux law suits against the pause in immigration from seven nation states, three of whom have no diplomatic relations with the US and are designated as state sponsors of terrorism and four that are war zones.
The courts have been exposed as never before as being political instruments of the left and corporatism, the Constitution be damned. This was expected by those of us who understood that Trump's election is a direct threat against the Washington establishment and the globalists who are more concerned about power and money than the welfare of the American people. It will be a steel cage, death match. The outcome is very much in doubt as to who will prevail.
Good point on her collapses. Overall, they ignored ANY reason that people had to vote for Trump or against her. So at the end, they are stuck explaining something that they absolutely didn’t set up with the evidence.
Thanks for the analysis and insight.
I don’t know if I am ready to side with Podesta who essentially says that Trump alone was able to beat Hillary (ignoring her overall unsuitability) and side with those that say, like Tucker Carlson, who claim that if the Democrats had run Warren against Trump he would have lost.
I just know how relieved I was to see the rally attendance and Trump’s speeches centering on policies I could support as opposed to the negative takes on opponents that partially characterized his efforts in the primary.
I guess I probably should watch before commenting. It can be streamed for free on SHO with a trial subscription. Should I use up my one trial subscription shot on this?

Were they implying funny business was involved with Trump's success? What does the viewer conclude?
They tried to put in a Russia plug, a Comey plug, but didn’t go full retard.
