Open primaries always swamp the conservative here. Last time it was Kelli Ward. Before that Hayworth. We run good conservatives against McCain, but by the time he finishes with them, even many Freepers are piling on them.
Then the Dems run a Hillary/Lizzie Warren clone against him in the general. The old bastard wins even though we hate him.
