GM sells 10 million cars for first time thanks to China
CNN Money ^ | 2/7/17 | Chris Isidore

General Motors sold 10 million cars in a year for the first time in its century-plus history. Strong sales in China more than made up for slower sales in the United States. The milestone led GM, the largest American automaker, to record profit. GM was in third place among world automakers, behind Volkswagen which sold 10.3 million cars, and Toyota, which sold 10.2 million. GM (GM) was the world's largest automaker for 77 years but lost the title to Toyota in 2008. Volkswagen topped global sales for the first time in 2016. China is now GM's largest market. Sales growth there lifted it to volume it never achieved when it was the world's biggest automaker. GM recorded its fourth straight year of record sales even as U.S. sales fell slightly, the first decline in GM's home market since 2009. The U.S. car market, which rose seven straight years to its own record, may have topped out in 2016. Sales are forecast to decline slightly this year. GM has announced three rounds of layoffs at its American plants, costing 3,300 jobs, its first cuts since 2010.

No where does this twit mention WHERE GM builds it cars. Like it doesn't matter. So this information is useless. Does this include light trucks? Of the 10,000,000 units how many were made in the USA?

This is worthless.

0 units where made in the US. China requires factories in China for large selling items. Nor are the factories owned by GM per Chinese law.

Since you want US consumed cars built in the US, why would you care where Chinese consumed cars are built?

There is a HUGE GM assembly plant in Shanghai.
Buick is very popular brand in China. The quality of the Chinese built - for Chinese use - Buick’s is really good compared to the Chinese national brands. It seems but may not be true, that Chinese plant builds a model type behind what is sold in the US/Canada

The plant in China is owned by a joint company. The cars say “Shanghai GM” on the back but the factory has someone elses name

SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (informally SAIC, formerly Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) is a Chinese state-owned automotive design and manufacturing company headquartered in Shanghai, China,
The joint venture is SAIC-GM.

The factories are run by GM. But this is typically strategy of getting the white Devils to hand over all thier secrets so the Chinese can copy them.

Last November we replaced my wife's 2009 Rav4 with a 2016 Highlander Limited - a lot of the technology (voice control of almost everything) makes my 2015 Mercedes seem stone-age -- but mine is more fun to drive...;-)

I didn't like driving the old Rav4, but the new ones are very nice and the technology makes them a whole other class of vehicle.

Is it “fair” and Free trade that the Chinese have a 25% import tariff on US built cars? Did you even know that? Why does EVERYTHING have to be so one sided? Free Traitors™ please < expletive deleted > off.

Exactly. Why are people under the illusion that we have Free Trade now? If anything, what Trump wants is to be truly closer to actual Free Trade, not this one-sided deal we have now.

And Trump's imposing a 45% China tariff. And killing NAFTA. You're getting what you want so why are you still bitching? Your walled garden is coming. The global supply chains will be torn down and if the investment interest exists, those parts and service supply chains can be rebuilt here. But just don't expect foreign counties to want to pay through the nose for our eports. And don't complain when they don't.
