Deputies told the station the person killed was 19 and was shoplifting diapers with three accomplices.
They were loading the diapers in a car when a Walmart employee tried to stop them, the station reported.
The shopper told deputies that he showed up at that point to assist the store employee.

Deputies said after the gunfire the four suspects drove off and smashed into two cars.
Three got away on foot. The one who was shot made it as far as a gas station across the street.

It’s a ‘shop. Fake but accurate, as they say.
In a sane world any mother would fear for her son’s life if he robbed a store because it’s a stupid thing to do that leads to violence.
Think what could have happened if they were stealing tampons!
That’s sad........did he even think to see if the manager could have helped out by giving him the diapers? I guess not.......sigh
Car used was stolen in a carjacking. How about that?
I don’t understand all the sympathy for what is obviously a gang or a member of a gang of thieves getting offed while stealing diapers to sell on the black market. Theft often leads to violence. Stupid decisions lead to stupid results and another Darwin Award winner has met his final curtain.
Drugs are often traded for household items. Items (not in this case) are purchased with EBT cards & then traded for dope. No money changes hands but items of value do. The household products are then sold on the black market thus meeting customer demands. This has been going on for at least a decade, probably longer.

The horrible conditions in the slums need to remain as incentive for people like that; she may have “slaves” do the work, but she’ll end up burying her bastards (and risks murder herself) for that life of leisure.
The life of this POS was worth less than the diapers.
In which case, the shooter should sue Walmart, it being the deep pocket.
Although, based on my last visit, shallower. But still deep enough!
Rash of crime lately?
1. Car gets stolen/carjacked in mid January.
2. That same car is used to go to a Walmart on a shoplifting spree. So, the carhijackers are either going shoplifting or the people going shoplifting obtained the car from the carjackers.
3. On being confronted by an employee and an armed citizen an argument ensues.
4. Two are shot by the citizen and one dies.
There are some lessons here that will be lost on the perps and future perps.
1. Don't hijack cars, don't use cars that have been hijacked. It is wrong and you could end up dead.
2. Don't shoplift, it is wrong and you could end up dead.
3. When caught shoplifting, don't argue, get in your vehicle and flee. If you don't you could end up dead.
Guaranteed this is not the whole story. Walmart confronts FOUR thieves, armed onlooker goes to assist Walmart employee, one can only imagine the confrontation as the thieves resisted. No loss here.
It’s a shame...those diapers were meant for the snowflakes at the local college.../s
