This article by the LA Times (LAT) is propaganda meant to shut down more conventional gas and nuke plants so that solar power replace them. So the LAT has manufactured an “investigative journalism” story line that the excess power capacity in California over the typical 10% in reserves is due to conventional power not green power. Moreover, many of the plants they mention that the LAT’s contends should be shuttered are those along the coastline that have been prohibited from using ocean water to cool their steam turbines and have been mandated to shift to pricey air cooling systems (sort of like converting your car radiator from water or liquid coolant to a pure air cooled system). Many of these power plants can not afford to convert to air cooling and are scheduled for mothballing anyway. The LAT is just a mouthpiece for unions and green interests.

True. Leaders in California should invest in integral fast reactors, plasma recyclers, boron engines, building insulation and water reservoirs.

Focusing on one or two natural gas power plants is pointless, since there’s enough gas to heat every kitchen and furnace in American for 500 years.

LA Times just has a glossy paper to hide their failed politics.

totally agree, fake news from misregulated power industry! Calif was doing fantastically well with clean energy nuclear plants built to withstand earthquakes. The nihilists, destroyers, anti-industrial revolution leftists took over in a silent coup. Now producers are suffering. Consumers, too. I believe there is only one oil refinery left in Carson. Verdant fields made green with brilliantly constructed aqueduct system are fighting for water, dairies closing by the hundreds. Ayn Rand, who grew to adulthood while the left took over Russia understood their plan and method. She captured in fictionalized form in Atlas Shrugged. Snails have higher status over humans? Cow farts are causing ozone depletion? Fantasy? Definitely. But decades of anti-intellect education has enabled the nihilists to take over.
