A Ukrainian political leader said she received assurances from President Donald Trump that he would look out for Ukraine in its ongoing dispute with Russia, according to people briefed in the aftermath of a quick, informal conversation between the two political figures.
Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko had a momentary meeting with Trump just before he spoke to the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton on Thursday.
Tymoshenko and a group of supporters who traveled with her from Kiev this week quickly relayed word of the exchange, telling allies in Washington that Trump had said he would not abandon Ukraine and would not lift sanctions against Russia until Ukraine was secure.

Magnificent campaigner, but a terrible Prime Minister. She was the only reason Yushenko ever got elected during the "orange revolution" back in 04. Once she became Prime Minister though she ran Ukraine with what could only be described as socialist economic policies. She was a disaster.

Yulia Timoshenko needs to be watched. She is not as lily white as she purports to be.
Politicians aren't lily white especially in Ukraine. That straw man fallacy aside, Ukraine deserves to be independent of Putin and Russia. Especially now that the political power of the EU is weakening.

Well said. They’re going to vote on joining NATO. They should not be let in, but the consequence of the vote will be a great indicator that the Ukrainians want to be free of damned Putinista thugs. Let all the nations be free to choose their own path. The unfortunate consequence of being next to Tsarist, Soviet, Putinista Russia should not mean you have to kowtow to Putin, like his boot lickers want.
Glad to see someone else who actually knows about Ukraine. Tymoshenko’s disastrous administration, which moved left on economic policy with predictable results is why Yanukovich was reelected after having been booted out by the voters previously. She’s a grade A idiot, whatever she looks like. Check out her daughter BTW.
