My friend Monica Crowley was the subject of a major hit job by CNN a few weeks back. She is a serious scholar, but she was portrayed as a serial plagiarist who never had an original idea in her head. The emotional toll of the uproar caused her to withdraw from her appointment by President Trump to be the senior director of communications at the National Security Council.
It is the countrys loss. Over the last two decades, Monica has been one of the most effective commentators on the national scene regarding the geopolitical challenges confronting the United States, and in particular the phenomenon of jihadist terror catalyzed by sharia-supremacist ideology radical Islam. As much as anyone Ive encountered, she has been invaluable: communicating the threats, debating them, and defending sensible national-security measures.

Monica Crowley should sue them.
I thought those charges were suspicious.
Maybe she’ll have more room to move up and fill in for Gorka or Flynn now on TV however....
A very public law suit with a VERY high financial reward for the damage CNN has done to her
Here is another example of their corruption. Lie lie lies
A lot of people her defended the accusations and dissed Crowley. Even without the information contained in this article, I thought the charges were very flimsy, that it was more a case of flawed footnoting than actual plagiarism. Now we find out that many of the footnotes were deleted by CNN. This is borderline criminal journalism.
I liked Monica....until I found out her CFR/Globalist dealings and membership. Screw her.
HIT THEM IN THE WALLET LIKE HULK HOGAN HIT GAWKER. PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS PAYING OVER 100 MILLION.
Well, screw you!
Please tell. CFR membership = huge anti American red flag.
Plus why should we listen to anything National Review has to say?
I have the utmost respect for ANYONE who is willing to serve in Trump cabinet and is willing to put up with all this carp. And I can certainly understand anyone’s position who doesn’t want to serve or withdraws. They are going to go through hell for the next four (eight) years.
I love Monica.
She should have taken the job anyway, not taking it let the left know smear tactics work.
“A lot of people her defended the accusations and dissed Crowley.”
A lot of people here are democrat trolls.
My conclusion after looking at the evidence is that she has lots of original ideas but unfortunately she has been a serial plagiarist. This is not fake news or CNN's fault.
She first got into trouble back in 1999 when she published an op-ed in the WSJ that was heavily dependent (including in the exact wording) on an earlier article by someone else whom she did not credit.
I would tend to cut people some slack for being a little careless, but you would think she would have learned from this. Now her latest book has been withdrawn because of substantial un-credited quotations from someone else's work. How is that CNN's fault? Obviously the publisher has to think about their reputation and doesn't want to get sued by the original author. And you can't blame the original authors for noticing and objecting to the un-credited borrowing.
After two very public plagiarism episodes, which she caused by her own actions, it's kind of her own fault if people start to look over her other work to see if this could have happened elsewhere.
Are the media being overly critical because she is conservative? Probably, but how come this isn't happening to any other conservative authors right now?
I have enjoyed listening to Monica Crowley over the years. I think I may have read some of her writing about Nixon as well, and I hope her public career continues, but she needs to get her act together.
I'll take her word for it that the problems with Crowley's book and thesis do not rise to the level where she should be accused of plagiarism, and were greatly over-counted by CNN. Also Ms. Chu makes a very good point that the passages of claimed copying were a tiny part of well-researched original works.
The article doesn't look at the situation from the 1999 charge of plagiarism against Crowley concerning her opinion piece in the WSJ. In that case there were several short passages that had to have been lifted from an un-credited source, but perhaps that also does not rise to the level of a major accusation, and maybe Crowley did learn something from this.
I really like Monica Crowley. I hope she bounces back from this and this is a loss for the Trump administration.
Having said that... The truth is the truth. You can’t be just “a little bit” pregnant. Either you plagiarized or you didn’t. How many times is irrelevant.
So, the defense is that I only had sex with 4 women, who weren’t my wife, not 61. Some of those other 57 were just flirting, fondling, and BJs (which we know, from Bill Clinton, isn’t really sex).
Oh, well in THAT case your wife should just overlook it. /s
She DID remove herself from consideration for the job, even though the Trump administration, at first, was defending her. As far as I have seen, she didn’t deny it.
Read the article. CNN lied in their attack on Monica Crowley.
Disappointed, especially in light of the fact that the media has selective memory. Ole Joe was exposed as a plagiarist but became VP.
Also Obama, Clintons, all proven liars but ok....
She did habitually plagiarize. The proof was undeniable.
