The campaign of French presidential hopeful Francois Fillon has suffered a setback with a fresh revelation regarding alleged payments to his wife.

In a 2007 interview aired on television news on Thursday evening, Penelope Fillon explains: "I've never been actually (Francois's) assistant or anything like that."

It seems to contradict Mr. Fillon's claims that for years prior she did real work as his parliamentary aide.

Mr. Fillon denies wrongdoing.

He says he is the victim of a left-wing plot to destroy him and the Franch right.

But he is facing pressure to pull out of the race for the presidency, with polls pointing to sliding support.....

Latest polling out today has LePen leading first round at 24.5 percent with Fillon down to 20 percent, tied with Indpendent-Socialist Macron at 20 percent, the Socialist Party candidate is at 17 percent.

Second round poll shows LePen at 41 percent and Fillon at 59 percent. That's his worst showing ever in second round and her best showing ever in a second round poll.

Now we have this new video making Fillon look bad.

I’m sure today’s events at the Louvre will boost Le Pen’s numbers.

He says he is the victim of a left-wing plot to destroy him and the French right.

I'm sure he is, but that doesn't make his payoffs to his family any less dirty. If any of the allegations is even close to true, he stole from the public to enrich his own family.

And he claims to be a devout Catholic. Perhaps he is, but I think his catechists missed a Commandment.

The Socialists picked their candidate in a primary recently and he was not the ‘insider’ candidate, he is a fresh face.

Perhaps it is to boost him.

I suspect if Fillon falls down, the beneficiary would be the independent-socialist Macron, who was a cabinet minister in the Socialist Party government.

Macron polls 20 percent today in a first round, tied with Fillon. He wins the second round over LePen 63-37.

He says he is the victim of a left-wing plot to destroy him and the Franch right.

Wait, is he saying the left wants to build up LePen?

FWIW, polls are cr@p. Only ones that might be reliable are the internals, and depending on who’s doing them, I’m not sure I’d trust those. Dumping all this on Fillon now just doesn’t make sense to me. Something else is going on. FWIW :-)

For the left (which comprises the ennemedia), Lepen will never be president, so they’ll shoot at anyone in competition with their candidate. Fillon was Sarkozy’s prime minister during five years and those “scandals” never surface then, only now so if it’s not a coup, it quacks like a coup and it smells like a coup.

Monsieur Fillon, do you have any pay stubs from your wife?

Non? Eh bien, would you like to buy some?

“We can beat her” is probably going through their heads right now.

The political masters here in the USA at DNC HQ thought Trump would be easy prey......
