Donald Trump has changed Black History Month to National African American History month, and we know why. A senior administration official tells TMZ, after meeting with African American leaders, he believed the consensus was that the term "black" is outdated, and the more appropriate way to refer to the community is "African American." The official added, Trump was mindful of the new addition to the Smithsonian ... the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Every U.S. president since 1976 had designated February as Black History Month ... same sentiment, different name.

Is this a joke? President Trump is now using the term that was made up by Jessie Jackson to divide us even more? If true, disappointing.
Too funny. Now you are going to have libs who hate Trump moving toward renaming it “colored” history month.
its true. doc at site
This is the first bad move by Trump. Really bad. Either they are African or they’re American. Decide. “Whatever American” is nothing but an excuse to divide and creates discord and racism.
As Rush Limbaugh said the other day, it isn’t going to make him more loved by liberals.
Silly and devisive yes but try doing away with it and see what happens.
Most black people I know refer to themselves as “Black”.
They’re not African.
When I was growing up I was taught the correct term was Negro, and that Negro was capitalized.
So who the heck decides these issues anyway? Jesse Jackson? Common usage? Who decided that “colored” was insulting but that “people of color” is acceptable? Why did the word “Negro” go away. I don’t remember anyone making an announcement that it was no longer OK to say.
...the consensus was that the term “black” is outdated, and the more appropriate way to refer to the community is “African American.”
I always thought the term “black” was deliberately focused on skin color (obviously) and divisive (black / white).

Italian American
Polish American
African American
IMO “Irish American” would be silly as my ancestors came over around the time of the Civil War.
If that is the term that they prefer, I’m fine with it.
How about a history month?
Meh.
I’m Viking-American. Get over it.
The people he with whom he is talking, who have high melanin levels in their skin, asked him to do this. So why is it a bad thing?
Lara Logan is 100% African, but absolutely not black.
[I always thought the term black was deliberately focused on skin color (obviously) and divisive (black / white).]
My feeling is similar...
“Black” refers to skin color..
“African American” refers to heritage, and this history of those Americans of African decent that made an impact in our nation’s history.
Black/AA History month honors Americans. Not Black Europeans, West Indian natives, or those in the continent of Africa.
