Faces of Nazi guards who helped oversee the death of more than a million Jews at Auschwitz revealed as Poland publishes details of 10,000 of Adolf’s men
The names of almost 10,000 Nazi SS commanders and guards who helped in the extermination of more than a million Jews at Auschwitz have been posted online for the first time.
The huge searchable database, which includes hundreds of photographs, has been uploaded by Poland's Institute of National Remembrance (INR) in an attempt to dispel false claims that many of the guards were Polish. The list of 9,686 names are predominantly German and their pre-war occupations are listed as farmers, butchers, teachers, cobblers and all manner of jobs.

They’d mostly be in their 90s by now - those who are still alive. Kind of late to do anything except rub the victims’ noses in it.
The purpose is to demonstrate that the camps weren’t Polish, it’s being done by the Polish government. I’m sympathetic to their concern, don’t know if this matters much.
Name them and shame them.

It might have actually meant something if they did it 25 years ago.
Did computers even exist 25 years ago? I think not!
Many of them seem to have been born between 1890 and 1910. If you were an adult when you joined the SS in 1933, you can’t be around any more.
How are you going to shame a corpse? Going by the life tables, of the 10,000 assuming they were in their early to mid 20s at the time fewer than 700 would still be alive today.
There were Nazi collaborators in France, and even among the Jews. Why would Poland be somehow immune? It wouldn’t be. This effort is therefore suspect.
Anything can be political. Would it be wrong to exonerate the innocent? Prove it wrong if you have alternate facts.
Joke? If not, computers were first invented during WWII.
Poland wasn’t and isn’t France.

Twenty five years ago, Bill Clinton had just been elected President. It was 1992. Of course computers existed. The Apple desktop publishing revolution was in full swing.
Poland was and is populated by human beings with a wide range of emotions and motivations. There were and are even (gasp!) sinners in Poland. I’m quite sure there were Nazi collaborators in Poland, if there were even among the Jews.

When computers were invented has no bearing on the age of information available now.

Are you being thick deliberately to try and score some sort of debating point for a non-existent discussion or are you just clueless? When computers were invented was an answer to another poster who mentioned that he didn't think computers existed in 1992.
And as for your other comment if the Polish government knew the information now it knew it years ago and CHOSE not to publish it.
The point is we hear of ‘Polish death camps’. They were Nazi death camps in Poland.
By the way, I am not so clueless that I don’t know Poland was under communist control for several years.
AND more paper info is being transcribed to ‘computer’ every day.
Perhaps it is a ‘choice’, but what are the reasons for the priority? finances? manpower?
