We should not allow Dreamers to forget that this is a nation of law and they received mercy.
On June 15, 2012, President Obama signed an executive order to protect those who arrived illegally to the United States as minors.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals provides a two-year window to shield these people from deportation and allow them to work. They must have been under 16 when they arrived, be in school or have completed school, and have no criminal record.
The order produced consternation on two fronts. First, the nature of the action. Many feel that immigration policy, legal and illegal, should be handled comprehensively and that the first order of business must be fixing border security. Second, the form of the action a presidential executive order. Many see this order as changing immigration law, which would therefore be unconstitutional because legislation is required.
Now we have a new president who was elected in no small part to deal with immigration. And he is moving forward deliberatively to implement his campaign pledges.
However, President Trump has so far not indicated what he intends to do regarding these so-called "dreamers" the name derived from the DREAM Act, the legislation originally proposed to process these undocumented immigrants.
According to reports, the president is hearing different sides on this, both inside the White House and inside the Republican Party. Some say "no exceptions" and want to repeal this executive order. Others want to continue the protections for these "dreamers" after all, they were brought here as minors and have grown up here but want to handle the issue with legislation.
Running a country is art, not science. If it were science, we could write software and send everybody in Washington home. Unfortunately, we need leaders who understand what our country is about to make tough calls when things are not black and white.
The immigration issue is about law and law is about defining the lines you don't cross. Whether it is the physical line that defines the borders of our nation or the legal lines that protect the life, liberty and property of citizens.
Those who came here illegally of their own volition have violated both and this cannot be tolerated. President Trump said, "A nation without borders is not a nation." I would add to this that a nation without law is not a nation. You need both.
Those whose arrived as minors, because their parents violated the law, do, I believe, deserve special consideration.
Certainly, as Christians, we understand that justice has two components judgment and mercy. Judgment is the implementation of the law in its severity. Mercy is understanding and appreciating when there should be exceptions.
Too often we have those who just want severity. And too often we have those who just want mercy. Yet again, you need both.
Senators Lindsey Graham and Dick Durbin have introduced legislation that would essentially replicate DACA. It would give all the same protections and have the same requirements, but extends the window to three years rather than two.
I think it is a good idea, but not enough. We should extend mercy to those who were brought here as minors illegally. But we should not allow them to forget that this is a nation of law and they received mercy.
We should assure they have learned or are learning English, that they know or are learning American history, and that they know or are learning our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.
Perhaps we should also include a requirement for some kind of national service, possibly in the U.S. military.
Regarding our laws, we should aspire toward the ideal to which Moses instructed the Israelites in the desert "You shall safeguard and perform" these laws such that the other nations of the world will say, "Surely a wise and discerning people is this great nation."
If they have been here one year and have not applied for citizenship, then they should be deported. If they have applied for citizenship or become citizens, then they stay.
Why should the American taxpayer be punished for the crimes of these “kids’” parents?
Exactly what I was thinking. How about some mercy for the poor American taxpayer. Its not like the taxpayers have magic money trees growing in their back yards that they can go to every time the government wants to be “compassionate” to illegals.
IMO, It is futile to beat the drum of Make America Great Again until the perp of the 2008 Coup D’Etat is brought to justice!
Then, and only then, will the stain/shame on America, along w/President Trump’s efforts, begin the road back!

Kick their asses out!
For that matter why should I pay for other people's children even if they are citizens. I'm sure no one asked me if it was OK with me if they dropped a litter and expected me to pay for it. I'm sure I would have remembered. But that's another subject.
OUT OUT OUT! We can’t even afford to take care of our own people.
Reward them for their parent’s lawless behavior, it’s the Mexican way.
One thing you’ll learn is that there is no group less grateful and that feels more entitled than illegal aliens.
Illegal alien cannot apply for citizenship. They are illegal aliens. Only permanent legal residents can apply for citizenship after 5 years.
Illegal aliens must return home and apply like everyone who did it the right way.
This is my issue with EOs next President they can be revoked!
Why I am so pissed off with this GOPe establishment congress! Not getting s**t done! Making President Trump do it by himself! When are they going to listen to us? When are they going to pass the law needed to make Trump’s EOs permanent?
They need to move faster and flip the regressive democrats! Like they were really bipartisan when they passed Obamacare.
Move faster! Beat the crazy hypocritical left down! Defend our President!
Call it what it is...........INVASION!...the second wave of the 2008 coup.
The stink, stain and shame of 2008 will remain as a beacon for the lefties (call them by whatever name) until the perp is held accountable....otherwise it’s somewhat like whizzing ‘gainst the tide!
First things first!

As President Trump said when he was Candidate Trump, we either have the rule of law or we don’t.
No accommodations should be made for illegal aliens.
We tried that in 1986 and it resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens and a general disregard for our laws by foreigners.
Citizens are not given a pass on any laws.
How are we going to deport their parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc. if we give them a pass?
The DREAM Act never passed Congress. It is not an Act.
Obama illegally implemented it anyway with no authority to do so.
Perhaps we should also include a requirement for some kind of national service, possibly in the U.S. military.
***************************
Illegal aliens are barred from the military.
Only citizens and permanent legal aliens are eligible.
For good reason.
The bigger picture is that we want to include those who WILL be team players. That too is “mercy for the poor American tax payer.”
Actually in practice, citizens are given passes on many, many laws. The police have to catch, the government has to prosecute, the court has to convict, and more.
If we had “perfect police” we’d grind to a halt in very short order. It tends to be that only the most egregious crime or the most fortuitous policing results in civil punishment. Other wrongdoing (when it is against the Lord’s will which is not necessarily the state’s will) can lead to a punishing sojourn with the devil though it escapes the civil.
If Trump does not end Obama’s illegal DACA program soon, it becomes Trump’s illegal DACA program.
1500 more illegal aliens have been given work permits since he became President.
Illegal aliens are not immigrants.
Immigrants are people who applied in their home country to be Americans, paid their fees, learned the language, waited their turn and complied with the laws.
No illegal aliens should be allowed to stay.
It is patently unfair to those who are still following the proper method of immigration.
Screw this “dreamers” crap. It’s like calling abortion “choice” instead of murder.
Bring back “illegal aliens,” with emphasis on the “illegal.”
It would give all the same protections and have the same requirements.
***************************************
That’s the other thing, the requirements are far too lax.
Why should we take the word of fraudulently documented foreigners with no proof?
Some of these “kids” are in their 30’s.
