A life taken, but also a life lost (14-year-old murderer)

Retha Moody walked across the asphalt to the beat of a clanging flagpole, past the barbed-wire fence, toward the red brick building, balancing a long white box in her arms.

She led the handful of relatives she had assembled through the metal doors and signed in at a glass booth. After securing their personal belongings in lockers, the group paraded through metal detectors before being led up to the second floor, past several doors that locked behind them.

The family had come to the Department of Youth Services facility in Dorchester to celebrate the 15th birthday of Raeshawn Moody, who had been charged with first-degree murder eight months earlier, when he was just 14.

Retha, the boy’s mother, arranged the chocolate sheet cake she’d brought while Raeshawn greeted everyone with a hug. He helped scoop ice cream into styrofoam cups as the party attempted a festive rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Do we really care where “dad” was? What does it matter?

The article offers a little slice of the “urban” environment that Donald Trump accurately described during the campaign. Of course, all he got was grief for pointing out the sad truth.

“Retha, who has another son who was sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in the death of a 2-year-old boy, says it was the system that let Raeshawn down.”

I highlighted the same line myself. “The System”...this woman has TWO sons in prison (essentially) for life because she was a negligent mother and she blames...”the system”.

George Soros loves abortion...why doesn't he fund sterilization drives? I'm serious! This woman, and others like her, should be given financial incentives to have tubal ligations. (Abortion is murder, and they'd need one per year at least, while they'd never use birth control.)

Dad can’t stay out of jail. Brother in jail. Dad and mom druggies. Sounds like other siblings in state care. He’s dumped on grandma. They all made their choices. No sympathy for any of them.

I disagree, the “system” is not responsible for the injection of semen into a fertile womb. To say that is more Liberal excuse making.

So, the two “idiots” that created this monster one night in some backseat somewhere are responsible NOT the “system”.

One part of an overall answer is mandatory but temporary sterilization for underage, unmarried and/or financially destitute parents. When and if either parent wants to have children as an adult, they can reverse the procedure.

Hmmm, saw a reference, I thought, to four -— guess this crime was the assassination of ONE person. Not that it’s any different.

Well, the father is quoted in the article and has the same last name as the mother, so apparently they are married?

The child was conceived while both mother and father were addicted to crack though, so I don’t imagine it was a very conventional marriage.

It sure is nice to blame “the system”.

You know, mom and dad are part of the system. That have more influence over their kids than anyone else in “the system”.

Blame the (non)parents. Jeesum Crow.

What has happened in urban neighborhoods is pitiable and deplorable.... the concerted and intentional breakdown of the family urged on by brain dead bleeding heart liberal policies is disgraceful.

Humanity is being lost, all humanity....

She is not entirely wrong.

The Black family changed after LBJ’s war on poverty. Part of the Aid to Dependent Children system required a single parent household.

That meant for a woman to get welfare to feed her kids the father had to move out. Over time that morphed in to young women having children just to get the welfare money and housing allowance.

The war on poverty is really the war on the Black Family. Sure they can decide not to be part of it but after nearly four generations many do not know any other way to live.

The only way to reverse the process and bring responsibility back to child baring is almost unthinkable. Cut welfare drastically require the mother to identify the father of the child in order to collect welfare. Require the father to provide support (how I don’t know).

I has taken a long time to get here and it is going to be a long way back.
