According to NY DMV:
Drunk driving, formally called driving while intoxicated (DWI) in New York, is a serious crime. NY will suspend your license, impose expensive fines, and even put you in jail if you drink and drive.

I know a guy who has had multiple DWI offenses. And I mean multiple. Just had another and should gave been looking at some serious jail time. Dude didn't do one damn day. Got probation. Again.

(I'll vote for the first guy who promises to mail in his SOTU addresses.)

If drunk driving is a crime, then anyone charged with it can demand to be tried by a jury. I’ve never heard of anyone tried by a jury in a drunk driving case unless it involved other charges — vehicular homicide, for example.
