A U.S. Special Operations member died of injuries suffered during a weekend raid against al-Qaida militants in Yemen, the military said Sunday.

Three other American troops, members of a Navy SEAL unit, were wounded in the operation on Saturday.

A defense official, said the slain service member was killed in a firefight with militants. According to a statement from U.S. Central Command (Centcom), 14 militants were killed during the operation.

The raid, which took place in a remote desert area of Yemen's Shabwa governorate, aimed to obtain intelligence information, including computer material, that was thought to be linked to planning for external attacks.

The assault, a Yemeni official said, killed 35 to 40 people in the village. U.S. troops, the official said, descended from helicopters, as militants had gathered for a late-night session of chewing qat, the leafy narcotic used by most Yemeni males. A lengthy battle followed. Many homes were destroyed, said the official.

The operation also killed 15 women and children, said the official, including the 8-year-old daughter (Nawar or Nura Al-Awlaki) of the late radical-Yemeni-American cleric, Anwar Al-Awlaki.

OK—This is about the fifth or sixth time this story has been posted.

Are we back to daily body counts now that a Republican once again occupies the White House?

Now that a Republican is in the White House, the body count will be back on the front page.

When you go to war bad things happen.
For terrorists, we need to target them, their families, friends, neighbors and anyone providing them with material or support.

One, was a school, a mosque and a medical facility which were all used by Al-Qaeda militants.

Do not let the roaches hide in these places. Level them....

Urban Renewal that works!

The terrorist groups are NOT signatories to the Geneva Convention.

Even when your enemy IS a signatory to the Geneva Convention, using protected places such as schools, hospitals, and religious building for military purposes, makes them valid and legal targets.

A field ambulance, marked with a red cross or crescent, pressed into service to transport ammunition, is a legitimate target.

A protected non-combatant who picks up a weapon becomes a legitimate target.

Mounting air defense or other crew served weapons on the roof of an otherwise protected structure makes it a legitimate target.

“Mosque” is derived from an ancient Summaric word for “weapons cache.” /s

Life is tough enough. It’s tougher when you are stupid.

This nation’s enemies, and their sycophants in the media, academia, entertainment, and the Democrat party continuously prove Albert Einstein’s most useful theory correct: Stupidity is the most abundant element in the universe.

“The op began at dawn...”

Must’ve been a really high suck factor knowing they’re going in as its getting light.

There would have been continuous surveillance all night. The Yemenis love their qat and sit up all night getting high. As soon as everyone is passed out or asleep, light ‘em up.

The muj have figured out that we have no counter to a barking dog. But dogs bark at dawn to movement in the village and are ignored.

“This is about the fifth or sixth time this story has been posted.”

Not that I’m aware, I do a search first.

You can google the names and places in my comment and won’t find an earlier reference. Much of it is still not in the Media, much less the Osprey photos.

I don’t like reposts either.

I’m Canadian watching these press conferences with surprise. Were they always like this, with the Press Secretary detailing what the President is up to hour by hour? We have no such transparency here in Canada.

4 casualties still too high of a cost, especially an asset like Special Forces - to kill 14.

Not sure about Yemen’s approval. I’ll check on it though.
