The U.S. Central Command said in a statement Sunday that another service member was injured in a "hard landing" in a nearby location. An MV-22 Osprey aircraft used in the raid was unable to fly afterward and "was then intentionally destroyed in place."
"Americans are saddened this morning with news that a life of a heroic service member has been taken in our fight against the evil of radical Islamic terrorism," President Trump said in a statement. "The sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces, and the families they leave behind, are the backbone of the liberty we hold so dear as Americans, united in our pursuit of a safer nation and a freer world."
A total of 14 fighters from Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula were killed in the assault, and U.S. service members captured "information that will likely provide insight into the planning of future terror plots," according to the military.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our elite servicemembers, Commander of U.S. Central Command Gen. Joseph Votel said in a statement. The sacrifices are very profound in our fight against terrorists who threaten innocent peoples across the globe.

I have always wondered why the military has to proclaim such things. It is a clear heads up for the terrorists to change locations, appearances, names, phones, plans, etc.
Just bomb these rat nests and any collateral damage is to those helping the rats hide among them.
Big bombs and lots of them. I’ll pay extra taxes for them if needed. And FFS stop helping these rats breed.

They probably didn't get anything. But saying they did will keep the enemy guessing and start to make moves showing their hands.
God rest his soul.
Prayers for this brave warrior’s family.
No WartHogs?
One less Osprey to kill Marines and Sailors.
Nice that the POTUS commented on the Death of our Serviceman so quickly rather than waiting days after playing a few rounds of Golf.
Can’t wait until President Trump finally gets around to playing ONE round of Golf.
The Media will excoriate him for taking a few hours off. The guy is a dynamo but he deserves a break IMHO.
Of course the Senate is too lazy to get Trump’s Team in place which is why he has to do everything himself. LOL
The ghouls in the media are back to counting bodies so there must be a Republican in the White House.
Trump will use his golf time to make deals. Not to share chum with his buddies
Why does the cream always get taken? So sad.
I would rather heard reports that several idiotic speakers from the so called cultural Marxist Women’s march made an untimely exit.
....and how many Sailors and Marines have been killed in HU-1 Huey’s????
Very simplistic and opportunist to use this tragic incident to grind your axe over the V-22.. Shame
We have many of them in service now. You don’t hear about that many having problems.
This is a great aircraft. Get over it.
The military says the Osprey has an accident rate similar to other aircraft:

Popular Mechanics, in its independent analysis, concurs:
http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a7663/how-safe-is-the-mv-22-osprey-8036684/
People are “over-remembering” the accidents (and deaths) suffered during the shake-down period of the Osprey.
The problem with the Osprey, as developed in the Popular Mechanics article, is its enormous cost of acquisition and cost of maintenance. A contemporary acquisition figure is $72 million. For one-third of that price, the Marines can be outfitted with V-280, which features a simpler mechanism.
Plus, the Osprey should not be pressed into served as a general utility aircraft simply to justify its enormous cost. It is more of a boutique aircraft, with unique capabilities, than a general utility aircraft.
Sad. If it wasn’t to rescue a hostage, it should have been 2 or 3 giant JDAMs. We need to use firepower instead of wasting lives and money.
Maybe they were trying to capture an ISIS bigwig for questioning?
Yemen is a hell hole.
I flew a COD into there, took 20 Yemenis out to the boat for the day. Yemeni general unstrapped when hot on cat one, I was .00005 seconds away from saluting and taking the shot. Yemeni general stood up, my aircrewman yelled suspend just in time. Airboss and shooter Suspended. Another general started beating the dude up who stood up. Then I went to Yemen to drop them off. Smitty the aircrewman ran in base ops to get our float coats back. Dudes all pointed guns at him and didn’t lower them. We hurried back to the carrier.
Yemen is a hell hole.
I’m sorry we lost a SEAL. Prayers for the family.
UH-1s. They haven’t been called HU-1s since right after they were first put into service.
