fact is USA kicked China’s ass in the first 120 years of USA tarrifs and the rest of the world. The USA was the world’s top manufacturing power in 1900.

Now ? China is , alibaba,Amazon as you agree. it’s over. Only chance is the genius Trump.

Free Traitors™ hate protective tariffs because apparently they have never read a history book.

Bull crap. High tariffs ended in 1913 just after the start of the auto age. The globalists killed all of them after WWII. The globalist Free Traitors™ gave us the “gift” of the income tax as a replacement.

LOL...........it reminds me of the old story that’s been around a long time about the farmer taking his young, prize and pet mule to the Mule Trainer. The farmer asks the OLD grizzled mule trainer to be gentle with his pet and beloved mule. Mule trainer says “oh, I will, I will”. Then he turns around, picks up a two by four and hits the MULE right between the eyes with the board. Farmer screams...”I told you to be gentle, why did you do that”?. Farmer deadpans back “oh, I was just getting his attention”. Trump’s just getting EVERYONE’s attention too.

I said protectionism, not specifically tariffs. Tariffs are just one form of protectionism.

Tariffs raise revenues and protect US industries. Win - win.

“Talking about tariffs is sadly delaying and confusing it all.”

Tariffs are part of the negotiations/distractions. Have you noticed that suddenly nearly everyone has accepted the wall? (”He’ll never build a wall. That’s just campaign talk”).

Trump has a plan. Let’s wait and see how this all turns out.

You’re clueless—we’ve been through this before, but you are immune to economic logic and reality.

The wall has already been approved by Congress. He’ll still need some more funds from Congress for it, but there’s really no stopping it—which is good!

But tariffs are an idiotic way to distract, as they cause all kinds of needless trouble—including COngress trying to slip an all-but VAT tax through with the excuse Spicer tried out of it paying for the wall. (Um, no, that would be American consumers paying for the wall—over and over and over again.)

I agree. Protectionism is not good...but it’s good to challenge other countries on their protectionism.

Some of our treaties didn’t do this. I think things will work out fine with Mexico, actually, because Trump’s attack is really what Pena Nieto needed to enable him to root out the corruption, crime and left-wing union activism that has paralyzed the Mexican economy and forced hard-working Mexicans to flee. So this will work out well.

A treaty must be beneficial to both sides, and thus will grow the economy on both sides. Mexico got a favorable deal but didn’t grow their domestic economy because they didn’t feel they needed to do so.

As for the rest of the world, I’m glad he’s taking on China (heavily protectionist) and our other trading partners.

Another thing that nobody takes into account is how internet commerce has changed trade relationships, so all treaties entered into in the last 20 years or so need to be renegotiated.
