In all the tumult over US President Donald Trump's signing of a memorandum in favor of the speedy resumption of building the Keystone XL pipeline, something important has been lost.
It's that he also signed a memorandum that would make the pipeline way more expensive and in violation of international trade law.

Nobody’s advocating a mindless echo chamber site. But what we have here on FR is often an mindless repetition of of almost endless Leftist medias published lies.
As I said, some posts of certain published lies can help in ferreting out the truth and can be very helpful. But we should be mostly publishing the truth on FR, not the lies and as much good news as possible to bolster morale. As some have said, if they all they did was look at the headline stream, they’d think this was a Leftist site.
You choice isn’t limited between posting the constant stream of leftist lies versus an “echo chamber.” As I said, FReepers should find and post reliable sources that have already deconstructed the lie and replaced it with the truth and with a headline that says the truth.
To be honest, many here need to become much more acquainted and intelligent with what they are advocating and believe in. Part of the problem IMO is many know what theyre against but have difficulty clarifying for themselves what they are for. That may be one reason they continually want to publish and then bash the Leftist lies rather than mostly publish the truth that will actually defeat the lies.
You missed the point. If you want to put MAJOR BARF ALERT on every article YOU POST, then you should do so.
I don't think you have any kind of 'right' here on FR to demand that everyone else do what YOU WANT.
Most of us can tell whether an article is the truth or a lie. We don't need someone else to tell us what to think.
Some people add BARF ALERT to titles, some don't.
There are POSITIVE articles on FR, just as there are NEGATIVE articles.
Many Freepers put a lot of effort into debunking the lies in articles. It's called SEPARATING THE WHEAT FROM THE CHAFF.
You are just as capable. Do you really need someone to 'think' for you ? If you suspect an article is BS, then just DON'T CLICK on it.
Bottom Line: I have no problem with you 'setting the example', but I do have a problem with you telling other Freepers what to do.
Even if YOU think it's for OUR own good. Jim owns the website, let him decide WHAT is allowed and WHAT is not.
>>>I don’t think you have any kind of ‘right’ here on FR to demand that everyone else do what YOU WANT.<<<
I am demanding nothing . . . I am suggesting that we continue to do what folks have been doing for as long as I remember.
I’m also suggesting that you not make Jim and his moderators work any harder than they have to to make FreeRepublic the premier site for God, morality and conservatism.
>>>Most of us can tell whether an article is the truth or a lie. We don’t need someone else to tell us what to think.<<<
And what of visitors to the site who see the following:
“You know, Trump also just made the Keystone XL way more expensive (and illegal) to build”
and that is the ‘first impression’ he/she gets.
They might just decide that they don’t need to waste time on a site that hates the President which would allow these kinds of posts.
Unless they click and read they will not readily discern your intention.
Argue all you want, but that is the down and dirty of it.
The Authoress probably has some of that cheap Chinese Laminate Flooring in her House that emits dangerous gasses.
It’s obviously affecting her writing.
I find it hard to believe that the SF Bay Bridge reconstruction did not involve federal money.
Are there economists or oil industry experts at the San Francisco Chronicle? I couldn’t find any.

Well said. They will be dragged, kicking and screaming, to a land of opportunity and prosperity.
This ought to bring the routing dispute with the Indian group back into the picture.
Or I assume it will.
Nah.
Just the Illegalsville-Queerville way of saying that American steel must be used for all construction.
Thanks for the responses. I do understand your concern.
Were you fooled by the title ? Did you stop reading and log off the website ? Do you know anyone else that did ?
FR has been all about posting articles (both negative and positive) and having the posters debate and decide the merits of the article.
You say it was not this way. When was that ?
When I see an article with BARF ALERT in the title, I rarely read it because there is nothing to do or say. It has already been exposed.
If we limit FR to only POSITIVE , CONSERVATIVE articles with no bias, then do we not become an ‘echo chamber’ ?
Seriously, you are starting to make me think you are a ‘snowflake’ who wants FR to be a ‘safe space’.
Even so, it doesn’t matter what I think of you. Only that we both continue to read and contribute to the debate of articles, both positive and negative, that are posted here on FR.
Maybe those who you are so concerned about being ‘scared off’ shouldn’t even attempt to get into debate on FR. You need to have a ‘thick skin’ as sometimes things get a little ‘tough’ when the subject is not so easily identified as true or false.
Again, THANKS for speaking out for your ‘side’ of the issue. I respect that.
Yours is about as disrespectful post I have ever read on FreeRepublic. If you feel stronger calling me a snowflake . . .
You can get a exemption from the “Buy American” clause, provided your State politicians have enough pull with the Federal government. No doubt California had enough pull. Most placed (particularly in the Midwest) don’t.
Then you haven't really been ON FR much.
If you feel stronger calling me a snowflake . . .
I didn't call you a snowflake, I said... "you are starting to make me think you are a snowflake who wants FR to be a safe space". I was trying to get you to sit back for a second and analyze your own behavior. I was hoping you might see how your behavior was very comparable to the 'snowflakes'. It is always easier for others to see what we cannot see about ourselves.
Now, I see multiple threads, every day, that contain a news article that DESERVES a BARF ALERT, yet it is not in the title. How come you aren't on every one of those threads complaining to the OP ? Why don't you post a comment to Jim Robinson and tell him how you think his website should be run ?
To sum up: You are not a 'snowflake'. I appreciate your comments and you trying to defend your position. I just think that what you are asking for is impossible, and most of the time unnecessary. Again, if you want to post a thread and include BARF ALERT in the title, that is your prerogative.
But that is not what you said in your first post, or I should say, you left that out.
The BOP valve failed horrendously.
The BOP valve requires a high level of preventative maintenance to ensure it works properly. It was documented that they failed to do much (or maybe any) preventative maintenance.
So, could be cheap materials, could be lack of maintenance, and was more likely a combination of both.
Thank you for the clarification.
On this thread I replied to Jim0216’s post, “Why post this drivel?”
I am not sure how this is to be interpreted as looking like a snowflake.
“I dont question your right to post it or a need to see what the other side is saying, I only question the manner in which it is posted - we need to go back to posting warnings in the title lest it be perceived as an endorsement.”
It is not myself that I am afraid will leave - it is for those that have received a recommendation from another FReeper to visit our site because it is the foremost site for conservatism. My concern is that it is this one that will see such a title and leave without exploring that we really are not endorsing the source.
If you wish to be the champion of a cause, I would suggest that you ask everyone to quit using BREAKING NEWS on articles posted on FR. I think more posters would back you on that, than on the BARF ALERT problem.
: )
When was this 'back' you speak of ? I have seen BARF ALERT posted in the title of SOME threads, and it really has only been popular to do so in the past year or so.
lest it be perceived as an endorsement.
I have seen posters ASK for a BARF ALERT on certain threads (and usually in a joking manner), but I don't remember anyone in particular stating that not putting BARF ALERT turned that THREAD into an endorsement.
Besides that, there is no point to just reading a headline and having a flat out ill-informed emotional reaction. Anyone who does that without reading at least the excerpt and some of the comments, isn't really READY to be on FR anyway.
Don't you read at least the excerpt and some of the comments on a given thread ? Why would you assume other people are not like you ?
You know i briefly worked oilfield back in the mid 80’s and i have been in the concrete business the last 22 years, now saying that and seeing that video of Deepwater Horizan last week there is of course the controversy of BP and the concrete test for the casing.
It makes me angry that BP does what thry did, and i hope this never happens again, plain and simple corporate greed.
No more, ever.
