In all the tumult over US President Donald Trump's signing of a memorandum in favor of the speedy resumption of building the Keystone XL pipeline, something important has been lost.
It's that he also signed a memorandum that would make the pipeline way more expensive and in violation of international trade law.

Would any true journalists be willing to go work for that discredited rag?
Only mutts would work there.
“...and in violation of international trade law.”
Oh me, oh my!
Sue us.
These dopes still don’t get it. America first!
IIRC, there are laws against steel dumping and it's been going on for years.
May cost more initially....but there's a balance to this...American workers driving the economy...paying taxes into the Fed coffers...Stores get built...restaurants do a booming business...
Importing it is a loss...to OUR economy.
Hush, laws are for peasants
So the brain-dead libtards at the SF Chronic Disease want us to be subject to INTERNATIONAL law? Well, OK then, how about those international countries that require death for homosexuals?
Myself being in the concrete business for 22 years plus a steel fabricator i’m aware of the lack of quality control of chinese steel.
I have no doubts that they will get very indignant when demands for their construction products fall off.To the point they will militarily make threats.
From portland cement, rebar, auto parts to heavy equipment.
Every week new issue with Bridge, cable will break or structure is weak. I don’t think bridge will survive another 5 years.
Ever read “Catch-22”? The Luftwaffe outsourced the bombing of US airfields in Italy to the US Air Corp. Maybe we could pay the Chinese to bomb themselves in the next war.
I was just thinking, too, that if Trump whacks unnecessary regulations, American steel might become a lot more competitive price-wise. I’d call that a win-win.
We will just use the money we save not funding terrorist like Obama did.
I sincerely hope that the list of priority infrastructure projects that the Trump Administration is developing will EXCLUDE any in California (or New York, for that matter).
Didn’t some dude say about 8 years ago that “elections have consequences?” Well, he was right about that.
Given the changes in the oil markets and Congress’ plan for a border adjustment tax, this could well be a pipeline to nowhere. Extracting oil from Alberta oil sands is much more costly than fracking in the Permian Basin. When you add in the 20% tax refiners would have to pay for Canadian oil, imports are likely a non-starter.
It all ROYAL BULLSHT, they will use the same judicial rulings and rights that were used to build the Interstate Highway System, which had much more objections since it had to run right through the middle of urban America.
Please don’t include Upstate NY. We’re in the red. In more ways than one.
“violation of international trade law”
Aww, is the Hague going to come after us with their nuclear weapons???
Now we have an arrogant MSM wetback pretending to be a heavy construction expert and an international law expert?
Hardly the intellectual heavyweight to create that analysis. It suggests a direct pipeline (pardon the pun) to the battery of Soros lawyers...
As soon as Soros in indicted for multiple and repeated felonies and he and his sons find themselves transported to Russia, we may be able to relax.
Where is Mitch Rapp when we need him?
The pipeline will also carry crude from the North Dakota fields. Most of this is now shipped by tank car.
It is funny how, one minute, there are no good journalists in SF, and the next, they’re hiring folks who are also experts at international trade law. Amazing.

You mentioned car parts which is a real pet peeve of mine. From my experience the Chinese engineer their parts to fail at he end of the warranty period. The concept of quality is so alien to them that is what they do. For example say you buy a set of break rotors made in China with a one year/12K warranty. Like clock work after about 15K the break rotors start to warp as if on queue. If you had spent just a little more and bought US made OEM part you'd get rotor that would last 50K even thought the warranty is the same at 1yr/12K.
