Dems Force Trump’s Ed. Nominee To Answer 1,397 Questions In Writing

Democrats are blocking the confirmation of Donald Trump’s Secretary of Education nominee Betsy Devos by forcing her to answer 837 written, follow-up questions from her Senate confirmation hearing.

“Mrs. Devos’ Senate opponents are grasping for straws,” Sen. Lamar Alexander said of the decision in a post for Medium. “We didn’t have time to question her, they say, even though she met with each one of them in their offices, and her hearing lasted nearly an hour and a half longer than either of President Obama’s education secretaries.”

Alexander notes that while answering followup questions is customary practice for nominees, the number is astronomically higher than any other nominee in the position’s history.

Case in point, Devos’ 837 follow-ups — 1,397 if you include all the questions within a question — is “25 times as many follow-up questions as Republicans asked of either of President Obama’s education secretaries.”

President Trump's election should have embolden these otherwise spineless Republican leaders. But they would rather kiss butt rather then get in the ring.

The Democrats, especially Pocahontas, are extremely smarmy! By her demeanor, Pocahontas proves to all that she is a smartass.

President Trump should freeze all activities, regulations and expenditures in each department until their head is confirmed and has been in office for one business day. That might not speed the confirmation process but it could slow down government spending and the mountain of regulations created by career bureaucrats.

She could answer all these questions and they won’t vote for her anyway. No matter how she answered.

Trump should hammer away at this ridiculous stalling tactic by the Democrats. Most Americans know this is pure nonsense and won’t stand for this type of obstructionism.

She should give it right back to them without answering any of the questions, then McConnell should hold the vote and confirm her.

If only she were Hillary; then she could answer almost every single question with, ‘I don’t recall,’ and get away with it.

She can reply, regarding the three-month's delay in responding, that she is still proofreading and making grammar corrections to the Dim Senator's barrage of questions. It may take a lot longer than expected. A lot longer.

I’d wager that’s more questions than Democrats had about Benghazi.

At some point you have to consider that it’s really Senate Republicans slow walking this stuff instead of just having a vote.

Eh, each GOP Ed committee staffer should be tasked with providing minimalist asnwers/nonanswers to a hundred questions within 4 hours, so they can just get on with it.

I think they want written answers so they can nitpick her grammar and writing skills. I have seen several twitter postings that show red line edits of Devos’ postings (with capitalization errors, grammatical errors, punctuation errors, etc.)

That’s what I told Hubby yesterday. All the Repubs have to do is say...we’re done. Vote. But noooooo they’ve gotta be nice and let the Dems run all over them....as usual.

True. The question I’d like to see her throw back at them is how many of the Senators children went to public school?
