Picked up a poorly edited and formatted kindle book last year that alleged we did not have enough uranium for even the first bomb until we captured the u-boat with it en route to Japan. Also there was a german on board that eventually designed the plutonium triggers for the other bomb. Curious to know thoughts.
This web site has a comphrensive history of the Manhattan Project and it's various locations and undertakings. It illustrates the immensity of the program. It does not mention cloak and dagger but rather the efforts of over 600,000 people. Apology in advance for the lack of formatting. http://www.atomicheritage.org

I heard of that shipment but have forgotten the details, Japan was building it’s own atomic bomb which we didn’t know about until we captured the building where the scientists worked out of... I have no doubt that the ENORMOUS facility in Oak Ridge created enough material to build the first 2 bombs.
No. There was a very, very limited amount of material (of all types) sent from Germany to Japan, but the a-bomb program Germany had begun (was in the research phase to start) was heavily dependent on the heavy water produced out of Norway’s hydrostation. Uranium enrichment for the first U235 bombs was all US production base from Oak Ridge TN, then later Pu from the west reactors at Hanford.
