One may have hoped that the media would respond to their 2016 failures and resulting lack of credibility by reforming. Instead, it seems that many in political media are quadrupling down on the mistakes that served them and their readers and viewers so poorly in the lead-up to Donald Trumps surprise victory in November.
Its impossible to track all the ways in which the media are leaning into their bias, their unnecessary hostility, and their abandonment of journalistic principles. So lets just look at a few examples from the last few hours.
Many members of the media would like to imagine themselves as brave heroes who will valiantly fight the excesses of the Trump administration. These examples show why people do not trust the media to tell the truth, much less hold anyone accountable for anything.

Don’t patronize the MSM, and certainly avoid patronizing the parent companies: Disney, Comcast, Time Warner, et al.
Shorten to, “No one trusts the media.”
Fixed now.

All those things and recently this fledgling journalist at the Columbia School in his letter to Trump `from the press corp’, from an article posted here yesterday, parroting his elders in saying, “We believe there is an objective truth, and we will hold you to that.” They make the rules, etc.
It is an absolutely stunning admission of the charges we make against them daily, a specious, arrogantly fatuous manifesto, IMHO allowing Trump to deal with them any way he sees fit.
The thing is, the media doesn’t appear to care that it has lost the trust of thinking citizens.
bkmk
Couldn’t agree more. If all conservatives would shut them all off, including posting from their websites here in FR, they would start losing their clout, or at a minimum we wouldn’t blow a gasket reading their crap.
Sometimes I really think you are right. Every time we post their attacks and hit pieces we are giving them traffic.
At the very least can we have a moratorium on worthless media polls telling us everyone hates Trump? How about no polls until the next election? We already know they are false.
A great article with a variety of examples.
Mollie Hemingway is one of my all time favorite political writers.
She is smart, knowledgeable, funny, and articulate. She has a grasp of classical wisdom and applies it to modern culture.
Wow. This is a great article.
No one could read David Gelernters book Drawing Life and come away believing that he is anti-intellectual in the usual sense. Gelernter primarily dislikes leftist intellectuals who are so often wrong.
They’ve accepted that they are just to steer the knuckle-draggers at this point - the people stupid enough to believe that Obama would buy their gasoline for them and pay their rent.
I just saw what appeared to be classic “fake news” here in NJ; a reporter said a crowd estimated as high as 25,000 was gathered at Columbus Circle in NYC to protest against Trump, then showed some clips that never showed more than a couple of hundred (at most). If they could get shots of mass crowds (like those attracted by Trump), they would have aired them.
Unfortunately, we still have to live with the dwindling number of stupid people that watch network news.
BEST ELECTION EVER!
