Inauguration Schedule of Events
The inauguration of Donald Trump as America's 45th president is the highlight of several days of pomp and circumstance in the US capital. Here's a look at the timeline of events.
Thursday, January 19
10:35 am - Performances begin at Lincoln Memorial. "Voices of the People," the first act of a day-long public concert, will feature groups such as the DC Fire Department Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, the Republican Hindu Coalition, high school marching bands, choirs and baton twirlers.
3:30 pm to 4 pm - Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in honor of the nation's veterans.
4 pm to 6 pm - Trump will deliver remarks during the second act of the concert at Lincoln Memorial, dubbed the "Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration." The event, broadcast live nationally, will be headlined by country stars Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood and feature a fireworks finale. Trump is expected to spend Thursday night at Blair House, the presidential guest residence across the street from the White House.
Friday, January 20
Morning - Trump, Pence and their families are expected to attend services at St. John's Episcopal Church, just steps from the White House.
Afterward, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcome Trump and his wife Melania to the White House for morning tea. The two couples will then travel together to the Capitol by motorcade.
9:30 am - Inauguration ceremony begins on the west front of the Capitol with musical performances.
Attendees will include members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, diplomats and the public. Former presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will attend, as will Trump's election opponent Hillary Clinton. Former president George H.W. Bush is in frail health and will not be present.
Sixteen-year-old soprano Jackie Evancho will sing the national anthem. The Rockettes dance troupe will also be performing, at a time yet to be announced.
11:30 am - Opening remarks. Religious leaders will offer the invocation and readings. Pence will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Noon - Trump will recite the oath of office, administered by US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. He will use president Abraham Lincoln's inauguration Bible, as well as the Bible that Trump's mother gave to him at his Sunday school graduation in 1955. Afterward, Trump will deliver his inaugural address.
12:30 Ceremony ends.
Afterward, in keeping with tradition, Trump and Pence will attend the Congressional Lunch in the Capitol.
3 pm to 5 pm - Inaugural parade. The newly minted president and vice-president make their way 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) along Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House, trailed by some 8,000 parade participants. They will include members of all US military branches, as well as high school and university marching bands, equestrian corps, first responders, veteran groups and even a tractor brigade.
7 pm to 11 pm - Trump, Pence and their wives will make appearances at three official inaugural balls, two of which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the other at the National Building Museum. A number of semi-official and unofficial balls also will take place throughout the city.
Saturday, Jan 21
10 am to 11 am - Trump and Pence attend the interfaith National Prayer Service, held at the Washington National Cathedral.

Hi, Yaelle! What a day!
Never saw this message on inauguration morning!! Yes, what a day it was, indeed!!! I think all of us, between smiles, were shuddering at what COULD have been.

As a Scot who voted for Brexit, I wish President Trump every success in pushing through his policies and Making America Great Again.

Yes...!
I do not depend on FR as my primary news source, but this really made me realize how much I depend on FR as my jumping off point.
I realized I dislike going directly to media sites unless I can go from FR.

Agreed.
I'm starting to think there is swarming phenomena (news). Take over 100,000 posters of diverse backgrounds and geography, throw in a conservative consciousness and important news finds it's way to the top. Further, unlike other social media there is an interaction encompassing other links and in most cases analysis.
FR is not my primary sources, however it is a great aggregator and filter on what is happening.

Favorite highlights?
For me, the inauguration, Trump seeing off Obama and Moochelle in front of the Capitol, the luncheon, Trump’s signing nomination papers and a law waiving the time limit for Mattis as Defense Secretary, the inaugural parade and the balls.
Just a fantastic day! To top it off, Trump rolled back Obamacare before heading out to the balls.

I saw that. Barron playing peek a boo with his baby niece while dad signed orders was cute.
I think yesterday laid to rest all the Autism... Something’s wrong with Barron talk.
Sure is good to have FR up and running.

My favorite moment was this part of his inauguration speech.....
“This moment is your moment. It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country.”
So nice not to hear “I, I, me, me, my, my”, ad nauseam.

The Staff Sergeant who danced with Melania and gave her a twirl was a moment. I imagine he will never forget his moment with the most beautiful First Lady EVER.

Asian press reporting US has withdrawn from TPP. http://WhiteHouse.gov states that US will withdraw from TPP https://www.whitehouse.gov/trade-deals-working-all-americans
Fox News has decided not to renew political commentator George Wills contract, according to a spokesperson from the network.
I also read that the USSS is looking into Madonna for suggesting in a speech today that the White House should be bombed.PER-Daily Mail

Ohhh, where to start, where to start?
Favorite parts:
The prayers at the inauguration ceremony; the Christian preachers said ‘in Jesus’ name’.
In the inaugural speech President Trump said “most importantly, God will protect us”
Tears/a lump in the throat:
IIRC during the choir singing at the inauguration, President Trump was blinking back tears.
During the parade, when the pipe bands were passing by.
During the church service at the national cathedral, as the ministers and standard bearers started to walk in, President Trump faced the aisle to show respect.
Seeing the Mall from the Capitol to the Washington monument completely filled with people.

I find it invaluable, because the fact is, I simply don’t know enough about many things to be able to make an informed decision about them.
What I get here on FR is a wide variety of input on data elements of a story I might not have a good grasp on. When it was an energy issue, I could depend on Thackney (who sadly, doesn’t post here anymore) to give valid information that bears on that subject. There are plenty here with military experience, business experience, historical experience (such as LS) and such.
I greatly value the family here at FR. And I sure did miss it during this most important of events over the last two days. Good to have them back.
