President-elect Donald Trump will swear on two different Bibles during his inauguration ceremony at the United States Capitol on Friday, one of which will be the same Bible used by Abraham Lincoln during his first inauguration.
The Presidential Inauguration Committee announced on Tuesday that Trump, who will be sworn in as the 45th president, will use his own Bible and a Bible used by Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, when he took his first oath of office on March 4, 1861.
In addition, it was also announced that Chief Justice John Roberts will conduct Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
"In his first inaugural address, President Lincoln appealed to the 'better angels of our nature,'" PIC Chairman Tom Barrack said in a statement. "As he takes the same oath of office 156 years later, President-elect Trump is humbled to place his hand on Bibles that hold special meaning both to his family and to our country."
According to a press release, Trump's own Bible was given to him by his mother when he graduated from Sunday Church Primary School at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, New York in June of 1955.
The Bible, which is a Revised Standard Version, was produced by Thomas Nelson and Sons in 1953 and has Trump's name embossed on the cover. The inside of the cover includes signatures from church officials and also highlights when it was presented to Trump.
Trump previously showed off his Revised Standard Version Bible in a campaign video in early 2016 that was designed to thank evangelicals for supporting his campaign.
"My mother gave me this Bible this very Bible many years ago," Trump explained in a video. "In fact, it's her writing right here (on the inside cover). She wrote my name and my address and it's just very special to me. I want to thank the evangelicals. I will never let you down."
The "Lincoln Bible" was originally purchased for Lincoln's first inauguration by Supreme Court clerk William Thomas Carroll and has been used for three different inauguration ceremonies, including Lincoln's inauguration in 1861 and President Barack Obama's inaugurations in 2009 and 2013.
The Bible is housed at the Library of Congress and received a special conservation treatment prior to Obama's inauguration, according to the Library of Congress website. The Bible is bound in burgundy velvet and has a gold-washed metal rim around the outside edges of the covers.
A representative from the Presidential Inaugural Committee told The Christian Post Tuesday that the Bibles will be closed and stacked on top of each other when Trump takes his oath of office.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Vice President-elect Mike Pence will be sworn in using the Reagan Family Bible, the same Bible that 40th President Ronald Reagan used to take his oaths of office. Friday will mark the first time since Reagan that the Reagan Family Bible will be used for an inauguration.
Additionally, Pence will have the Bible opened to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
The verse reads:
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Pence's oath of office will be conducted by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
"It will be my honor to take the Oath of Office to defend our Constitution from a man who has dedicated his life to the same noble pursuit," Pence stated.

They neglected to mention the koran that zero used last night on the news. They said he used the Bible from Lincoln, but nothing about the koran.

The constitution stipulates that "oath or affirmation" is needed, the latter option allowed by the framers because Quakers do not swear oaths.
Interestingly the "solemnly affirm" option was only used once--by Franklin Pierce. I expect Trump to have no problem using the standard form of the oath.

In the headline, the word “swear” was being played between its two definitions.
Substituting the phrase, “take the oath of office,” narrows the meaning to one definition. It does not mean that the wording of the oath itself is being changed.

Inauguration Schedule of Events
The Inauguration of Donald Trump as America's 45th president is the highlight of several days of pomp and circumstance in the US capital. Here's a look at the timeline of events.
Thursday, January 19
10:35 am - Performances begin at Lincoln Memorial. "Voices of the People," the first act of a day-long public concert, will feature groups such as the DC Fire Department Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, the Republican Hindu Coalition, high school marching bands, choirs and baton twirlers.
3:30 pm to 4 pm - Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in honor of the nation's veterans.
4 pm to 6 pm - Trump will deliver remarks during the second act of the concert at Lincoln Memorial, dubbed the "Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration." The event, broadcast live nationally, will be headlined by country stars Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood and feature a fireworks finale. Trump is expected to spend Thursday night at Blair House, the presidential guest residence across the street from the White House.
Friday, January 20
Morning - Trump, Pence and their families are expected to attend services at St. John's Episcopal Church, just steps from the White House.
Afterward, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcome Trump and his wife Melania to the White House for morning tea. The two couples will then travel together to the Capitol by motorcade.
9:30 am - Inauguration ceremony begins on the west front of the Capitol with musical performances.
Attendees will include members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, diplomats and the public. Former presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will attend, as will Trump's election opponent Hillary Clinton. Former president George H.W. Bush is in frail health and will not be present.
Sixteen-year-old soprano Jackie Evancho will sing the national anthem. The Rockettes dance troupe will also be performing, at a time yet to be announced.
11:30 am - Opening remarks. Religious leaders will offer the invocation and readings. Pence will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Noon - Trump will recite the oath of office, administered by US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. He will use president Abraham Lincoln's inauguration Bible, as well as the Bible that Trump's mother gave to him at his Sunday school graduation in 1955. Afterward, Trump will deliver his inaugural address.
12:30 Ceremony ends.
Afterward, in keeping with tradition, Trump and Pence will attend the Congressional Lunch in the Capitol.
3 pm to 5 pm - Inaugural parade. The newly minted president and vice-president make their way 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) along Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House, trailed by some 8,000 parade participants. They will include members of all US military branches, as well as high school and university marching bands, equestrian corps, first responders, veteran groups and even a tractor brigade.
7 pm to 11 pm - Trump, Pence and their wives will make appearances at three official inaugural balls, two of which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the other at the National Building Museum. A number of semi-official and unofficial balls also will take place throughout the city.
Saturday, Jan 21
10 am to 11 am - Trump and Pence attend the interfaith National Prayer Service, held at the Washington National Cathedral.

I get goosebumps just reading this thread. I can’t imagine what Friday will be like. To have a president in the WH who actually loves our country will be such a wonderful thing.

I love it too. Pence was not my first choice for VP, but every day he impresses me more.I can't even recall who I was hoping he'd choose--but no one could have pleased me more than Gov. Pence. I am impressed with him more each day as well. I was not an early supporter of Trump. When Pence accepted the VP role, it gave me great pause and made me wonder what Pence saw in Trump. It was helpful in turning my support to Trump to know that a man of Pence's character fully supported him.
Now I think they are a fabulous team!
